I’ve been soloing until I figure out the controls, so I don’t ruin everyone else’s fun with my ineptitude.
Also, I’m still sick, proven by having to fight both Rioters and motion sickness whilst playing. Fuck Ubisoft for not having a first person mode.

the draw distance is terrible when you jump out of the plane. you basically don't see any buildings until you pull your parachute.
after that, its playable, I've seen reports where it varies between 25-30 fps, which feels about right.
Unless I'm blind, there isn't an in-game control listing. So my first death happened because I didn't know how to reload a gun (or load it to start with).
2nd death happened after killing a handful of people in my building, then having to run to catch up with the circle. Finally make it past the circle, try to catch my breath and shot in the back.
3rd death happened when I jumped in a car, but it put me in the wrong seat, and someone was watching from above and shot me in the head while I tried to figure out driving controls.
Still, there are moments of pure adrenaline in there, and you don't notice the poorer visuals.

The bit with the house blew me away, even though the patricide was sort of overdone. The conversation with papa Blazkcowitczhwzicthz was chilling and sad. But MAN when the house got snatched up like that...holy shit, that was incredible. I really liked how the game sort of gets into that whole "walk and look" genre like Gone Home (it's done this before) and uses that to hit the emotional beats outside of cut scenes. But then you are scrambling through it sideways with shit flying all over the place.
The trial also blew me away- it looked amazing, and the breakout was INSANE. I found myself wondering how many players DO NOT run up and shoot the judge immediately. The reveal was crushing, too.
Super Spesh getting killed barely registered. I do not like the "conspiracy theory dude" character in general (he was also in Stranger Things 2). But I did like that sequence.
The execution, that was great too...in front of the Lincoln Monument, wow. That is where the game suddenly goes WAY over the top, and for a minute I was like "no, uh-uhn" but then I remembered that this is a game series where the end boss used to be Hitler in power armor. And I had already killed scores of Nazis, Nazi robots, and Nazi dogs with laser guns. So why the hell not?
I picked the Ram Shackles a) because of the name and b) because running through and bulldozing Nazis seems like a worthwhile ability.
I feel like the gameplay over the last few sequences has been almost on par with DOOM. Getting ahold of the shotgun made me happy and I upgraded that bad boy right on up. Definitely the best weapon.
Anyway, I bought the deluxe edition on sale so I have all of the Freedom Chronicles to look forward to as well.

I’ve been waiting for years for this to happen. I’m going to get it when I sell a guitar.

I have to say, the audition scene was one of the best video game scenes I've ever seen. My mouth was on the floor the whole time. I mean, it's not enough crazy that BJ, with a new body after a head transplant, is impersonating an actor playing BJ...ON VENUS...but there's a Ronald Reagan cameo and Hitler shows up. I was just completely floored by it all. The depiction of Hitler was shocking, hilarious, disgusting, pathetic, honest, and wonderfully insulting. Here is the great bogeyman of the 20th century, quite possibly the most evil man in history...and he's a geezer pissing the rug in his jammies and slippers. It was just so unhinged...but yet it was still TENSE as a motherfucker in the same way that some of the scenes in Inglourious Basterds were. You just had no idea what was going to happen, and the whole time you are- and I know you did this- pressing buttons and looking around to see if there is ANYTHING you can do to kill Hitler right there. And yeah, OF COURSE the first thing you did when you got control back was to go and try to kill Hitler (trigging a trophy called "Kick It"). So many conflicting, complicated things going on in that whole scene.
But you know, I also really loved the scene with Horton in New Orleans- it was weird and off the rails in a different way. The professor is sniping, the horn player is tootling along, BJ and Horton are having this really intense (and drunken) conversation about freedom, patriotism, serving your country, rebelling against it, and finding common ground against fascism. It was unusually insightful and frank, very on the level and thought-provoking. One thing I really, really love about this game is that some of the main characters and biggest Nazi-killers (including BJ) are Southerners. Not cartoon, racist rednecks. but actual proud, authentic Southerners. You don't see that much anywhere, really.
Submarine sex joke on the other hand, totally unnecessary and juvenile.

The game does other things well. It's take in race is, dare I say... Nuanced?
