So episode 3 of the new X-Files was a pretty humorous one, including Anderson hamming it up in a sexy scene. Mulder finally gets one of his long-time wishes fulfilled. I wondered about the "I Want to Believe" poster back up on the wall after Mulder ripped it up in the first ep, turns out this one was Scully's.

The Expanse finishes on a pretty open-ended note, which is a kind way to say "cliffhanger".

Really liked ep. 3 of The X-Files. It had the pedigree, and it was the last one the advance reviewers saw, so I was prepared for it to be good, but it's really not just good on a curve named "we're just glad it's back" but is up there with the better of the series overall.

RobertB wrote: If we're kicking Kurt Sutter around, I tried to watch The Bastard Executioner, but couldn't really get into it. My inner Medieval Warfare nerd was insulted that the townsfolk, armed with sticks and armored with a burlap shirt, wouldn't pick up a bunch of free chain mail and swords laying around after a little battle that they somehow won. However they did it, it wasn't with the Welsh bowmen that literally lived in the neighborhood. At that point I could no longer suspend my disbelief. I bitched about it to the missus, but she just looked at me like I was an idiot. That's not news to her, though, and I guess she loves me in spite of my inner 13-year-old.

You should check out The Last Kingdom.

I thought it'd be cool to rewatch the first episode of Band of Brothers today. Four hours later I'm moving onto episode 5. Haven't watched this series in a long time and forgot just how good it is.

Reminds me I need to watch the Pacific again. I liked it better than Band of Brothers (which I also liked). It was more senseless horrors of war and less bro camaraderie.

Pacific was good? K, I really need to watch that. I adored band of brothers. The camaraderie angle of soldiers is one that needing telling and no media has ever done that justice the way band of brothers did

I feel between Black Hawk Down and Band of Brothers, we got everything we need for war on film

The Pacific is basically about the senselessness of war and grinding experience of the enlisted man. There's a limited amount of camaraderie. I ended up reading the memoirs it is based on and it captured them wonderfully. If you pair it with Band of Brothers, it does a nice job balancing out what can very occasionally be a little sunny in terms of the pure love the men felt for each other or whatever.

wait, what?

Your title of poster least advisable to read with mouthful of coffee is retained in a second category additional to the "funny stuff BB says" category

The Pacific may have done a good job of covering the source material, but I found it lacking in entertainment value compared to Band of Brothers. Instead of following one group that happened to see a lot of action in a variety of locations in Europe, the Pacific focused on three different characters to cover a variety of situations in that theatre. I respect that creative choice as a good reflection of the reality of that front in the war, but it made for a weaker sense of story. Band of Brothers had an ideal setup, with the one company actually seeing so much action, plus making progress on the map that could easily be followed.
