No one is talking about this? Seriously? The movie was everything I was hoping for. Great characterizations- everyone played their role perfectly. No Spoliers here but I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be seeing it again.

I will second Steve's recommendation. The Avengers is the most entertaining movie I have ever seen and handily surpasses any other superhero films to date.

I'd put it right up there with the other classics of the genre, like the first Superman movie or Spider-Man 2.

It does a really good job of figuring out the weaknesses of the individual characters. I love how it focused on how flawed each character was. We are broken people, and we rely on each other to accomplish great things. I found those themes to be very effective.

And yes, it is tremendously entertaining.

I loved it. Pure awesome. The character interaction was great. Plus, they FINALLY got the Hulk right with a great guy planning Bruce Banner as well.

With all the great buzz, this has gone from 'I have no interest at all' to a solid 'Maybe I'll go see it.'

I thought it lacking a bit at the beginning, but the second half was fantastic.

I'd still put it just below Spider-Man 2, but a fun time at the movies for sure.

Man, if only the marvel studio had the rights to the spider-man and x-man films as well...

oh and this is no spoiler, but to those that haven't seen the movie yet, there are _two_ credit clips. One about 15% of the way in and then one at the very end.

Warning: Spoiler!

I'm seeing it this weekend so pleased to hear it's good. The Avengers are one of my favorite comic book groups and Marvel comics were what I read growing up. I even bought the Marvel Heroes board game years ago which is just ok.
I still play it though. Thanks for the heads up!

Saw it this afternoon. Renner would make a great elf with his bow skillz!

I am so glad they gave time for characterizations as well as good action pieces.

Some funny stuff as well, esp with the Hulk.

Yes and do stay for both clips at the end of the film. The last one is at the very end of the credits.

I might see this again and will certainly be buying it on Blu Ray. FYI, I saw it in 2D. Just in case anyone cares.

I saw it as well this weekend, and while I would put it up near the top of the comic book movies, it doesn't come close to Iron Man, X-Men 2, and the new Batman films are just in another league all together.

How do you have an Avengers movie without the line "Avengers Assemble!"? I owe it to Whedon's usual facade geekiness. Hawkeye was terrible as well. Did anyone really care for that guy during the film?

Was anyone else reminded of a giant let down of a film during the ending of the battle?

Dan

It doesn't come close to the latest batman movies. But to be fair batman doesn't split screen time between 6 characters.

And yes the Power ranger villains buuilding crushing eel/snake spaceship was right out of transformers, it even recycles some of the sounds.

Movie was just Ok to me. Only Tony Stark and Bruce Banner have well written lines.

I've only seen the Thor movie before seeing this one but it prompted me to get the other movies. I really enjoyed it.

Why does Hulk's CGI not look as good as Lord of the Rings' CGI from 10 years ago? The CGI in LotR is more 'believable' next to the live action characters, whereas the Hulk still looks like a video game character superimposed in a live action movie. Did LotR have a better CGI studio?

Also wanted to like Van Helsing, but the monster fights reminded me of the video game Primal Rage.

I'd like to know if they considered doing a live action Hulk, but scaling him up.

Ha -- I tore all the skin off my forearm the first time I shot a compound bow (back in 8th grade).

As an aside, a surprisingly good archer is Bo Jackson.
