The more I see about this movie, the more I must see it. The first preview I saw was just horrible, but they keep showing more and more, and it it just keeps getting better. I LOVE the actors they chose for the villains.

Ha! Is that C. Thomas Howell as the kids dad?!!?

In the 80s, my friends and I thought he should play Peter Parker should a Spider-man movie ever get made.

Why is it night time in every shot? Why not just film in black and white if you hate colour that much?

That sequence with the kid putting on the mask was more inventive and had much more emotional resonance than all three of the Raimi movies which were awful. Hope they can sustain that look and feel for the whole film and that the trailer isn't the best thing about it.

I hated Tobey MacGuire's take on Spidey with his constant simpering and passive approach in relationships. Peter Parker, the way I remember him when I was a kid reading the comics, may be in the dumps but he is also inventive and darker than MacGuire ever was. Hope this whole thing is grittier. Already it seems a bit more adult (yeah, I see the paradox, kid's comic book, adult).

Count me among the original batch of skeptics. The Raimi movies aren't perfect, but I have a lot of fond memories of them, and I never thought they jumped the shark so bad that they needed a hard reset. But Andrew Garfield looks like he's moving Peter Parker away from the sad sack portrayal of Tobey Maguire. That's a good move, and I'm looking forward to this movie as a result.

+1

I may be the only person on the planet who enjoyed the "dark Spider-Man" bits of the third Raimi picture. Yes, that includes the dance number. For about 20 minutes out of three cloyingly saccharine barf-a-thons, we actually got to watch Peter Parker not act like a whine-y pussy. How lame does your superhero character have to be when dressing up like an emo kid is the toughest thing he does in the entire trilogy.

As for the trailer, they lost me at the cars-falling-off-bridge sequence. They did the same damn thing in the first Raimi movie. Didn't they also do it in Fantastic Four? That kinda' shit belongs in a Superman movie where they can't really do fight scenes.

Also, I'd like to know what Spider-Man's web shooters are made out of, because ludicrously high tensile strength or no, that car still outweighs Spider-Man by a shitload. You'd think it would just continue to pull him downwards and keep unraveling more web out of the device until they hit the water.

Looks good.

The only thing that bothers me is that he unmasks himself like three times...I always hated how much time Spidey spent without his mask in the first trilogy. Only times it worked were on the bus and when he turned around and MJ saw him.

spider-man's web shooters are made out of 100% pure plot devices.

This is a common problem with live-action superhero movies. Fans want to see the heroes in full costume, but the actors want to be seen with the mask off as much as possible. A lot of the promo shots for Avengers showed Evans with his mask off and Downey not even wearing the armor. And that old Judge Dredd movie was notorious for how often Stallone took off the helmet.

Come to think of it, most decent actors would resent wearing a mask much. It gets in the way of acting because they can't display their full facial expressions. It's kind of like that thing posted here recently about the lousy archery technique used by the Hawkeye character in Avengers. The purpose of this movie is to entertain people, not teach them how to hold or fire a bow. So it's more important that the actor hold his bow in a dramatic way than a realistic way.

Oh yeah, I know. I should be used to it by now.

It's like in the Burton Batman movies, Bruce Wayne is like, "My identity is secret and known only to Alfred. And Vicki Vale. And Selena Kyle. And Max Shreck. And Robin. And Chase Meridan. And The Riddler. And Tommy Lee Jones. And Batgirl. But not Elle McPherson. You hear me, Elle?!?"

The thing that really chapped my ass with the masks was the first Raimi Spider-Man movie. Why put that stupid fucking helmet on Willem Dafoe and make him bob his head up and down so we know he's the one speaking? The guy looks just like the Green Goblin! Paint his face green, and there you go.

QFT

That scene in the first movie where the Goblin and Spidey talk on the roof is awful, just because you don't see anyone actually acting. Well, except for the bottom half of Willem Defoe's face when the light hits his helmet right. He's acting for all he's worth, we just can't see it. One of the bad points of that first movie.
