I watched an Internet cut of HEAT that completely eliminated the Natalie Portman charcacter. makes a good movie a great movie.

I would like the location of said edit. I love quality internet remixes that improve the original. I wish there were more of this going on. Has anyone taken her out of Thor?

This was some years ago; I saw the Yoshimi edit . There has since been another, which looks even more drastic .

Tough one. Tough one indeed. I have seen and rated over 5000 movies, and have over 200 personal 5 star movies in my own ratings DB. Hard to push a single button on this question.

So instead I'll recommend a movie I think was great, fits an AT mentality, and probably hasn't been seen by every movie afficianado here on the fort.

Brotherhood of the Wolf. This french movie kicks all kinds of ass. I mean, where else you going to find a frickin' ninja mohican?

Or a goofy ass segmented bone sword? Seriously fun movie though, Vince Cassel aside.

Easy: Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (1990). Brilliant acting turns by Dreyfus, Roth, and Oldman, brilliant writing, fun, metafictional, and with a lot to say about life and death and art.

Runner-up would have to be The Yakuza (1974). Forgotten gem. Less 'cute' with the East Meets West stuff than modern cinema would be, and Robert Mitchum was a badass.

Life of Brian has been picked, so I'm going to go with Old Boy.

thanks, Hatch. Looking over the list, I think Cool Hand Luke wins. Final Countdown is embarassed to be in a list of that calibre but it certainly is ameritrash I think at its best.

Casablanca is always one that I recommend to everyone. I am still surprised at how many people have not seen it.

I don't know how Chronicles of Riddick makes it on the list. One of the worst movies I've ever seen. Pitch Black was better.

Off the top of my head

Once Upon a Time in the West
Sergio Leone's Clint Eastwood Westerns, Fistful, Good, Bad, Ugly etc,...
Pulp Fiction
Resevoir Dogs
No Country for Old Men
Dr Strangelove
Taxi Driver
Apocalypse Now
Alien
A Clockwork Orange
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
