Not entirely sure what you are talking about here.
The pilot starts with the destruction of Caprica (I think). It was my understanding that any 'intro' series was added much later. In any case, I have never seen it. Unless you are talking about the TV series Caprica, which is certainly not necessary to watch BG and definitely was developed after BG had finished.

The (3-4 hour) miniseries is the pilot. It sets up the backstory and how the Cylons wiped out most of humanity. If you stared with "Thirty-Three" then you definitely missed all that.
