House of Cards on Netflix

Netflix has been one of the first to take streaming to the next level. Producing original programing and streaming the entire season directly to the consumer. Trust me, this is the wave of the future.

They started off with a show called Lillyhamer starring Steven Van Zandt as a gangster who moves to a small town in Norway to start a new life. It was ok but it didn't really grab me. Besides, Van Zandt is not a great actor. Not even very good I don't think.

However, they have a new series based on the novel and British show of the 80's called House of Cards starring Kevin Spacey as a ruthless Politician and his Machiavellian schemes. Based on the pilot episode I just watched it is fantastic. Spacey IS a great a actor and he owns the role. It was really entertaining even if I felt like I needed a shower afterwards to get the slime of Washington off of me.

Highly recommended.

Wife told me about the series and raved about it. I will definitely give it a looking over.

A friend of mine read a story about how the show was conceived, basically with an algorithm.

House of Cards original series = high Netflix user ratings
Kevin Spacey movies = high Netflix user ratings
David Fincher movies = high Netflix user ratings

So, House of Cards + Kevin Spacey + David Fincher.

Kind of a nifty way to do some preliminary audience testing.

It really is the next step, it was released simultaneously all over the world.

I've watched the eleven first episodes and although excited for the season finale, I think the writing becomes uneven (to not say plain bad) mid-season. The lack of cohesiveness hurts shows like this more than any other, and some uninteresting plots are given way more time than they should.

The beginning was great, hope the ending will be too.

You might think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

Make sure you switch on the subtitles for this one.

The dialogue is really important and sometimes a little muffled.

Wow. That's a really devious way of creating content. Netflix has all kinds of data it can mine, and not just ratings, but if you liked this you liked that, how many minutes did you watch of it, did you finish watching the entire season, etc. Sure beats relying on Nielsen ratings.

My wife and I like it. I can't wait for season 3 of Stargate Universe.
