Top 10 Favorite Comedy Movies

Wow, so many great choices! I can't believe I forgot Young Frankenstein. I love that movie! Another nearly perfect film.

I came really close to including The Jerk. Probably should have.

Strange Brew is another great one. I haven't seen it in ages, but man was it hilarious.

One of the things I noticed about the Favorite Movies thread was how much overlap there was between all of our movies. I was hoping that since humor can be a very personal thing, we would see a lot more diversity on these lists. For the most part, I think we have (although it's not surprising that Monty Python appears on nearly everyone's list). Thanks for reminding me of a bunch of movies I should watch again when my mood gets low.

You can't really do this and not name Best in Show as well. It's not about music, but it might just be my favourite of the lot.

Still tough to figure out limiting only to comedies:

1. Ghostbusters
2. There's Something About Mary
3. The 40 Year Old Virgin
4. Zombieland
5. The Big Lebowski
6. This is Spinal Tap
7. Office Space
8. Bridesmaids
9. The Royal Tennenbaums
10. Dr. Strangelove

Took some thinking but that's quite accurate

I actually liked that one quite a bit less than Guffman and Mighty Wind. It has its moments, especially the Fred Willard play-by-play, but didn't seem to be as solid all around. I've only seen that once, though, and the other Guest movies at least 2-3 times, so I should give Best in Show a spin again. I also didn't think that the latest film, For Your Consideration, was as good as the others. The HBO series, Family Tree, was pretty good, though.

Strange Brew is another great one. I haven't seen it in ages, but man was it hilarious.

Ah yeah, I remember that being really funny, but that's one I'm not sure would hold up as well now. And the Cheech & Chong movies had a lot of genuine comedy (aside from being just drug humor), but not really my thing anymore, so I couldn't say whether they compare to anything else. There are some great musical comedies, too, like A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, though I think of that as more of a stage thing, even though there was a film version.

I really wanted to put Little Shop of Horrors on my list. That film has held up pretty well.

I can't believe this thread is on its second page and no one has mentioned Blazing Saddles.

To me, Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein are Mel Brooks at his best.
