Also, today is the 75th anniversary of the Joker's first appearance.
And Frank Miller is doing ANOTHER DKR sequel.
Sad.

Some amusing tweets:
"oh wow I can tell this version of the Joker is a real bad dude because his origin story involves falling into a vat of hot topic"
"Wait so Jared Leto is playing Ninja from Die Antwoord playing Joker?"
"so the new joker definitely vapes right"
"Let’s look at the bright side, guys. The Joker is supposed to be upsetting."
And to Michael's comment:
"If that’s what the Joker looks like, just imagine the Juggalette Harley Quinn we’re getting."

But I will check out Miller's new comic if he is drawing it. I wonder if he'll get Lynn back for the colours, they're divorced now so I don't know what's going to happen in that regard. I am one of Dark Knight Strikes Again defenders. It's a fun silly comic but more importantly it looks great. Miller's pencils are fantastic and Lynn experiments with her colouring techniques. I've literally never seen anything like it... I think Lynn is an absolute genius and possibly the best colourist of all time. Paired up with Miller is simply a treat every time it happens. I can think of at least three distinct styles that Miller has had over the years. Each one of them great and instantly recognizable. I can't say that about any other comics artist really.
I kind of expect his writing to suck (it's never been amazing anyway) but possibly be entertaining in a silly way... which is fine if the book looks great. Then again I'm the only asshole I've seen defend that stupid Holy Terror book. Once again, because it looks great. I've seen lots of people defend books where the art is as shitty as Miller's writing and the writing isn't quite as good as Miller's art... do they not realize that comics are primarily a visual art form? Do they think we all buy old Marvel comics for Stan Lee's writing?
and Josh is right... the best all time Jokers starts with Mark Hamill, you could put Heath Ledger's weird creation next to that I suppose and possibly stick Romero in there too. But Hamill gets first dibs because he played the proper joker how he actually is in most comics.
This shit here... it's even worse than Nicholson's joker, and I never thought I'd say that. Incidentally, how the fuck did Burton direct Keaton in Beetlejuice and then make him Batman and NOT the joker? I've never understood that.

I don't care for DKSA myself, but Grant Morisson had some interesting things to say about it when he was on Kevin Smith's Batman podcast. Frank is taking Brian Azrelleo along for this book as a co-writer. Wise choice. It's supposedly to be 8 issues long, I'm sure it will take forever to finish, if it finishes at all. I'm sure it will be filled with all sorts of xenophobia and mysoginy, so good on ya, Frank.

The writing assistance is nice. I always wanted Frank to give up on the writing and work for someone else. I have this dream that Moore will write a story perfectly suited to Frank's pencils... but it's looking as if that will never happen now. Moore is great at understanding how to use different artists...
I wouldn't be surprised to see some of Franks... failings in this book as well (there's hints of it going back a long ways actually) but like Holy Terror, which is borderline evil in places, I'll forgive him that because I like his art and mostly I think he's pretty harmless.
No word on Lynn joining him though eh? In fact DC says at the end of their press release "artists to be announced" which is terrifying. Without Frank drawing I'm very hesitant to even give it a chance. I need it to be Frank and Lynn or I'm out.
This article I just saw shared the other day has some interesting insight into what happened in Miller's head over the last 30 or so years.

Frank is one strange dude. I talked with him a bit at various shows over the years when I owned my comic studio and he's a nice enough guy, but then he gets off on these tangents that make you think you're at either a LaRouchie meeting or, these days, a Tea Party meeting, since neither grouping tends to have a very firm grasp on reality (I've been to a few. They're OK if you can keep from laughing and/or looking agog at some of the things that are said.) The guy who did most of my ink worked with him on The 300 film and came away really concerned, especially since he was basically on-call to Frank for several months. Crazy (likely literally.) Regardless, his work has been an exercise in pining for the past for the last two decades. Even The Dark Knight Returns carried some pretty aggressive political undertones that had almost everything to do with his getting mugged a few times. The pacing and rhythm of the series are great, but the story is a bit on the light side. I much prefer the old Daredevil stuff if I'm going to read any Miller. I liked the first Sin City series, but after that it just got trite (like the films!)
