Bugs: Recent Topics Paging, Uploading Images & Preview (11 Dec 2020)
Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.
The Martian (Nov 2015)
(warning, trailer does have decent plot spoilers if you haven't read the book)
I really enjoyed the book, and have been excited for this movie ever since I heard about it last year. Cast looks good, definitely visually looks like a Ridley Scott film (those space suits look....familiar...), and hopefully we get Good Ridley Scott too.
Though it is weird seeing Damon as a stranded astronaut for the second time in as many years.

definately a weird and uninspired casting choice to put Matt D in this role this soon after interstellar.
seems like such a weird movie for Ridley Scott to do. When was his last good movie anyway? If this one again comes to a lukewarm critic reception, I hope he doesn't pull a Tony Scott.
Anyway, for sure i'm seeing this. I would kill for another Moon.

In the book his space suit was damaged by the storm. Not sure how the movie handles this ... the disorientation caused by the storm could cause him to fall and damage his suit that way. Either way I'm seeing it. From the trailer looks like it could be good.

mikecl wrote: I'm seeing it too because I'm a sucker for this kind of sci-fi, but the author of the book on which the movie is based has been criticized for his science on Martian storms ... most notably that Martian dust storms don't cause any physical threat other than visibility problems. With Mars's extremely thin atmosphere, a 150 km/h wind has basically no momentum.

Yeah, the author has basically acknowledged that fact, saying he took a big liberty with the storm science because he needed a good way for Watney to get stranded and the others to not know that he could have survived.
