Barnes & Nobel Criterion Collection Sale

Barnes and Nobel is doing their once or twice a year 50% off Criterion Collection sale, which is when I usually pick up a few of these because they become reasonably priced. And I can afford the more expensive boxed sets.

I figure there are a few film buffs here, so which ones should I be looking at? Best bonus features? Worthy supplemental materials?

Some I'm considering:
Red River; Fantastic Mister Fox; The Complete Jacque Tati; Any Kurosawa I don't have; Good Morning

Some of my Recommendations:
Vampyr - Great movie for Halloween and contains a copy of the screenplay
The Passion of Joan of Arc - Pair with Vampyr for a Carl Theodore Dreyer 1, 2 combo
Monsters & Madmen box set - Great Double Feature movies including some with Boris Karloff and Christopher Lee
M & The Testament of Dr Mabuse - A pair of Fritz Lang classics

Anything else that I should be looking at?

God, too many to list...

Grey Gardens, Solaris and Andrei Rublev are easy first draft picks...Hausu...Fishing with John if it's still in print...Breathless...Eyes Without a Face...Bob Le Flambeur...Scanners...Branded to Kill...Robinson Crusoe on Mars...Gimme Shelter...Hanzo the Blade...Carnival of Souls...Time Bandits...

So many great pictures to choose from. Jeez, I used to buy the $125 CAV Criterion laserdiscs.

Yeah, there's a lot of great ones.
Can't tell you how many times I've picked up Andrei Rublev and Solaris but kept putting them back (waiting for this sale). Same with Fishing with John.

Can you explain Godard to me? I've only seen Made in USA and Pierre le Fou. I guess I don't "get" French New Wave?

Made in USA is decidedly minor Godard. It has a reconfigured noir plot and Anna Karina looking lovely in a bunch of cute outfits but that's about it. Check out Alphaville and Breathless!

Yeah, Breathless and Alphaville are the two must-see Godard films. I would say Pierrot Le Fou too, but it looks like that was a miss for you. I hated it the first time I saw it.

Another good one to consider- Cocteau's Belle et Bête- beautiful fantasy film.

And Peeping Tom! Awesome, ahead of its time thriller.

Was tempted by The Great Dictator blu-ray, but its only $4 cheaper than Amazon and I'd have to pay shipping.

Incidentally, on July 15th Amazon is having a sale just for Prime members to celebrate 20th anniversary thats supposed to rival Black Friday.

Pierre I didn't mind and it left enough of an impression to want to watch it again, I just haven't yet.
I'll check out Breathless and Alphaville.

Peeping Tom I loved, OOP at this point, but I found a copy at a used DVD shop.

Yeah, the sale is really best for the pricier $40+ or box sets. Out of the Chaplin movies...Great Dictator the way to go?

Oh hell yeah, those Melville films are both exceptional. Choosing one, I'd go with Le Cercle Rouge. Tremendous crime picture.

Le Samourai, so good. One of my favorites. Le Cercle Rouge is sadly OOP though looks very interesting.

Has anyone seen Odd Man Out? I love Night Train to Munich and The Third Man.
