So, this weekend I was pointed to the trailer for the upcoming Deadpool movie. I really don't know too much about the character beyond him being a Liefield creation that is something like a cross between Spider-man and the Punisher. He's into killing people...but with humor!
I dunno, I'm probably ignorant to the character and have him totally wrong, but, uh...the trailer...
1) We went through an Iron Age with comics. Do we really need to go through it on film as well? I thought these sort of gritty anti-heroes were relics of the past. Can we just skip all this in the MCU (though I believe this one is Fox)?
2) So...shooting three dudes, then wanting to go masturbate over it...maybe I'm just a big old wuss, but isn't this a bit much? Maybe I'm just over excessive gun violence with what been's going on the past several years. Is this the the sort of hero we need these days?
Deadpool is a very popular character. I've never understood it, but I'm not a religious comic follower either. He always seemed like a relic of the "attitude" era in the 1990s.
It used to be that I'd watch pretty much any superhero movie. With so many coming out now I'm perfectly okay with passing on some of them. Unless this gets stellar Guardians type of reviews I doubt I'll ever watch it.
Deadpool is the worst! There is nothing redeeming about the character. He's like the annoying kid in your high school class that doesn't shut up because he thinks he's funny but he's not. Let's be honest, people only like him because he has swords AND guns. The character is all about shock value and this movie will be too. Okay, I'm off my high horse now.
I am sure I am in the minority here, but what they need is a new superhero to save the world from the avalanche of shitty superhero movies. The Fantastic Four is tanking and. I could not be happier. It's about time for the law of diminishing returns to grab ahold of the movie industry. I am superhero at saturation. I mean I would be fine with it but there is only so much studio money to go around financing movies. I am ready for anything else.
Deadpool is a strangely popular character for someone who's never had an iconic story line or successful series of their own. None the less I meet a lot of people that like him quite a bit. For me, there is room for an anti-hero of his kind in the Marvel Universe even if I don't personally care for it. Yes, it's a hallmark of nineties comics, but the trope has been around far longer than that. If Marvel is going to be releasing a universe of super heroes over several different franchises than at least a couple of them ought to be anti-heroes of some kind. You can't just have boy scouts in every film. With a world of super heroes some will be like this and there's a market for it as well.
I'm just sad that Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern movie bombed... I really like that one.

Naw, I totally agree with you. I just think Deadpool is not that superhero.
