Another new SW7 trailer

An international trailer for SW7 that includes quite a lot of new footage. And wow, some of those shots are amazing... The tie-fighters approaching gave me chills. First shot of C-3PO with his red arm, and a couple new glimpses of Kylo Ren's saber. Good stuff!

Yeah I really like this new trailer.

So many shots of that droid at the beginning, i wonder why they did so many.

Also that sith guy sure is pulling out his saber a lot. That was a big beef of the prequels, the sabers were constantly being pulled out the second anyone heard any the small noise. In the OT, they were barely used. It's like the jedi only use it as a last resort. Obi-Wan practically never used his, which made him just so insanely awesome. Things got pretty hairy in the Cantina so he's forced to use it and before anyone knows what is happening, there's a severed arm on the ground. He doesn't pull it out again until Vader is right in his face. That's awesome restraint and responsibility.

This sith guy is constantly using it. Bugs me.

Other than those two things, I LOVE this trailer

They are killing it with these trailers. Some really beautiful shots.

Although ... given that this is the Japanese trailer, I expected a lot more Sarlaac-related tentacle porn.

A stormtrooper wielding a liquid propellant flamethrower seems archaic. Other than that, pretty good trailer.

So many awesome moments. And BB-8 is adorable.

But now I'm done watching promotional material. I want to experience stuff like TIE Fighters approaching with the sun at their backs for the first time in theatres. I now feel like I'm spoiling too much, even though they've done a great job of not putting too much exposition in these trailers.

I agree with only half of it.

This is the third time I've read through a SW thread on here and saw people write JJ only to realize moments later they don't mean me... goddamn it.

Anyway, the trailer looks great, this is what JJ was meant to do. Both his Star Trek movies just felt like he really wanted to do a Star Wars movie to me. I didn't like them because they didn't feel like Trek. This is his though.

A reasonable theory that Luke turned to the Dark Side in RotJ.

Everyone is complaining/pointing out that Luke isn't in the trailer of on the poster. Has it occurred to anyone that maybe Luke isn't that damned important 30 years down the road? Maybe everyone is over analyzing it because it's a JJ fucking Abrams movie and they feel that's what he does (despite the fact that he's shown time and time again that he cares more about what the box looks like rather than what's in it)?

I'm not using spoilers anymore, this "Luke is Kylo" bullshit needs to be diffused.

What we know about Kylo Ren from what Abrams has said and what's printed on the back packaging of the toys is this:

He's not a Sith, the Knights of Ren are something entirely different. Not a part of that "Jedi vs Sith" seesaw that Luke was VERY much a part of.

He's a bit unhinged. So in addition to going Dark side, Luke needs to go a little batshit crazy, too. Not remotely hinted at in his character at any point in the OT, so not buying that, either.

His lightsaber is unconventional and unstable. Luke already built one lightsaber between ESB and ROTJ, he knows what the fuck he's doing. So for him to become Kylo, he now needs to go Dark side, get crazy, and forget how to make a decent saber. The debate on what Kylo's saber does exactly is still open, but if it's a crossgurad, why? He's already lost his saber hand, why care now?

And the biggest thing that I still stand by 110% that I previously hid in spoiler tags before is this: This new crew, Abrams included, loves OT Star Wars. We can already clearly see that. Luke going Dark and becoming Kylo Ren would render his quest and arc, which is heavily steeped in traditional heroic archetypes, entirely pointless. Him being the central character of those movies (don't buy into that BS Lucas is telling you that it's 6 movies that tells the story of the rise, fall, and redemption of Anakin), the OT itself is also rendered pointless. Yes, I've seen that 10 year old episode of Dinner for Five where Hamill essentially pitches Abrams the Evil Luke story, but I feel that was him wanting something more fun to play, not what was best for the story. JJ wouldn't do that. He didn't do that.
