Think about it. Aren't these two movies the embodiment of what you hoped every D&D game you ever played would be like?
So many of the tropes used in RPGs are here in this movie. The main idea that the heroes belong to the "martial world", a fringe society that exists along side the rest of humanity is very much akin to the idea of a group of adventurers roaming from town to town. Feared and respected by normal citizens but not really understood. Hiring out to solve problems as mercenaries with a conscience. Magic swords and super fighting prowess not possessed by common mortals. The hidden place where the secrets of the combat are taught.
As I watch these two movies, I keep thinking that if you could craft a D&D campaign half so good as this it would be the best role playing experience of your life.
