D&D movie wishlist?

Someone recently posted a thread about Crouching Tiger being the best D&D movie and I thought they had a good point. It looks like a new D&D movie is in the works and it's being produced by the people that did the LEGO movie. We have had some real bad luck in the past with D&D movies, so the question is, what does a D&D movie need to make it work well? Here are some thoughts I've had in the last few days...

-It needs to have a different tone than LOTR so people don't think it's as much of a rip off. I was thinking more of an action/adventure movie with lots of humorous parts in it like Marvel Studios would do. Lo and behold I ran into an article yesterday where the producer said they were going for a Guardians of the Galaxy vibe. I think that could work really well.
-I would also love some really stylized action and fight scenes. Maybe the choreography could have more of a martial arts influence...
- The characters also need to be deeper and more complicated instead of just following the D&D race stereotypes.

Look, I'm no movie director, but this is a start. What would be on your D&D movie wish list?

For the idea to make D&D a movie to be put inside of a non-working 1971 VW Bug and pushed off a cliff into the ocean.

UNLESS it is based on the cartoon.

"It's the Dungeons and Dragons ride!"

It needs the heroes to roll dice before they attack, and at some point the following lines must be spoke:
"Lightning Bolt! Lightning Bolt!"
"I put on my wizard robe and hat"

Evil overlord played by Andy Serkis on a green screen kidnaps Liam Neesons daughter and kills a puppy given to Keanu Reeves by his dead wife. Then throw in some Vin Diesel because he has that great voice... Playing a wizard against type. Charlize Theron plays the woman paladin who can kick ass better than any man. Peter Dinklage plays a powerful halfling Druid. Paul Rudd as a rogue because he has been in more movies than anybody in the past ten years, and he is due for one, and you need a rogue. Kevin Hart as their friend, because you need a black guy AND he can also provide the comic relief.

What I'd like to see is the movie be a High Fantasy film with the brand DnD taking a back seat. No Forgotten Realms. No Drizzt.

I think a light hearted tone without goofiness would be great. Like you mention.

Hell, they should just make a Fafherd and Gray Mouser movie.

So basically his character from Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire.

If it isn't a DnD world like Forgotten Realms then what would make it DnD versus every other fantasy film? Unless it is tongue in cheek like "Creatures and Caverns" (real world gamers find themselves in the game world) then a serious attempt would fail just like the previous ones as it would be too generic.

I'd like to see some recognizable spells. Some action that really let you see the dice mechanic ( like missing an obvious hit by rolling a 1). But id really like to see 1982 Conan and not 2012 Conan type stuff. Real props and prosthetics, limited CGI.

I hope they put Jeremy Irons in it and hope we won't be able to hear or understand a word he says

Basically, you need at least both a dungeon and a dragon. Let's have an old fashioned deadly dungeon crawl in which the heroes must reach the dragon's hoard and escape before sundown. Yep, I just described Dungeon Quest.

As far as I know, the only D&D story that has anything close to cultural currency is that Drizzt series. So, if the movie isn't about that in the Forgotten Realms...I have no idea what could possibly make it a recognizable 'D&D' movie. As much as I'd like them to, I doubt they'd do a live action feature based on the cartoon.

Doesn't much matter to me...the finest fantasy film has already been made.
