I wish I had Hulu. Perhaps, it will finally inspire a Warriors movie board game?

Talk of making it grimier, grittier, sexier, etc. That's too bad. Part of the charm of The Warriors is how tame it really is.

At the time it was in theaters, The Warriors was not at all considered tame. In fact, there were an unusual number of fights during screenings of this movie, and a few murders. Some theaters stopped showing The Warriors just to avoid trouble. I was a teenager at the time, and my parents wouldn't let me see it, though they took me to see Alien that same year.

I don't know if a modern treatment could fully do justice to the movie. New York City in the late '70s had a very distinctive presence in pop culture. It was dirty, corrupt, and scary, with a particular reputation for muggings. All of the actors in The Warriors were locals, and most weren't professionals, which gave the film a bit of a documentary feel, despite the exaggerated gang themes and stylized dialogue. And that scene where Ajax got nabbed by the undercover cop had a definite '70s porno vibe to it. I suppose a modern take could just focus on current gang slang and style, but it probably wouldn't feel like The Warriors anymore.

I'll give it a shot, certainly. But I love the movie for its ridiculousness; a gritty update will likely feel completely different. Not saying it won't be good on its own merits.

I'm getting a Watership Down vibe. What? We're talking about this, right?
