Finished this and loved it. Had no problem with Ryder at all or the ending. Life isn't a storybook where every event is self-contained.

As far as the other topic here goes. When I was those kids age I had no curfew and would be gone overnight with no phone calls. I had the opposite of helicopter parents.

Let's talk about the father figures here. None of them come off well. Will's dad is a deadbeat. Mike's dead is clueless. 011's "dad" is an evil ass. Hopper could have been a good dad, but we'll never know. Meanwhile the moms are all shown in a pretty positive light. Is this an 80's thing?

Spielburgian thing. He has an obsession with absent fathers (physically or emotionally).

Patriarchy thing? Left likes to portray it as clueless or sinister. Well, even if true, got to admit it is more interesting than the all knowing, "Leave it to Beaver" sort of father figure.
