Talk abut Movies & TV here. Just tell us what you have been watching. Have hyper-academic discussions on visual semiotics. Whatever, it's all good.

FYI, this week AMC is having a rescreening of the Planet of the Apes (1968). I'm seriously considering attending the screening since I haven't seen the movie on the big screen. I do own the DVD box set for the movie series. Of the movies in the series, my favorites are the original Planet of the Apes and the Conflict of the Planet of the Apes. The themes from these movies are still timely and it's amazing how society hasn't changed much from 1968 to 2016.

I have been meaning to re-watch the Planet of the Apes movies. They were a big deal when I was a kid, but there was a lot of cultural commentary in those movies that flew right over my young head.

I'd love to watch the original in a theater. Beneath was the only sequel I liked. I liked the TV series as a kid.

I remember one of the biggest mind fucks that this movie gave me when I first watched it as a wee lad was when I read up on the source material and found out that the movie was based on a French science fiction novel. I don't know why, but this sort of blew my mind, like those two characteristics--both French AND science fiction--were unrelated somehow. Of course that discovery led to Heavy Metal and its vibrant imagery that was so compelling to a pubescent male imagination. I've had a soft spot in my heart for French science fiction ever since then.

This is showing on the big screen a mile from my house tomorrow. We used to have Planet of the Apes action figures when I was a wee lad. Sadly, I made a prior commitment to watch the new Star Trek tomorrow and couldn't talk my movie buddy into Planet of the Apes, or even a rousing game of Pax Pamir. So flashy, cotton candy it is, and the steak will have to wait for another day.
