Top 5 Kurt Russell Films
- THE THING -- I love this movie. Manly men manning it up, except they are also dogs and aliens and what not.
- TOMBSTONE -- "Justice is coming... in my pants" Thank you, tip the waitress. Another great movie. Everyone steals the show: Kilmer is your huckleberry, Biehn wants your blood, Shepard's mustache is there, Powers Boothe! Lots to love here.
- BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA -- This movie makes no sense and I am ok with this.
- (big pause)
- STARGATE maybe? I haven't seen THE HATEFUL 8.

It's okay. If you enjoyed Django Unchained and Inglorious Basterds, you should definitely see The Hateful Eight. I personally enjoyed Tarantino's earlier work more than his recent movies. Oddly enough, The Hateful Eight could easily work as a live stage performance, because the vast majority of the movie is one big, long intense conversation/confrontation.

He turns in one of his better performances, but I just didn't enjoy the movie much. I saw it during a weekday with a very small audience, which included two teenage asian boys who laughed every time they heard the n-word, which was often.

Didn't care for the Clint Eastwood impersonation?
(Opposite Lee Van Cleef to boot!)

The comparison makes sense, except that the only monsters are the humans. Hateful, racist, spiteful, violent humans. I would rather watch The Thing.

I think most of it is covered in that interview.
A bit more on the score here.

Black Barney wrote: no but seriously, I'm very thankful to write reviews here instead of for a newspaper that would MAKE me see stuff like:
Suicide Squad
Sausage Party
Jason Bourne
I mean, no one could possibly be interested in reading reviews for those movies. We all know what those are. I'd rather see stuff that I want to see and MAYBE someone will read a 5-second review just to know what the heck that thing is
Keep it up Barney, always interesting reading your thoughts and seeing what's out there. I mean I don't follow AT ALL what movies are coming out in the cinema, except maybe kids movies because my daughters are at an age where going to the movies is a possibility (youngest went for the first time this summer with her mom and sis - that animals movie), but otherwise I never go out to the movies, I think maybe 4-5 times in the past 6.5 years since I've become a parent. I do watch a lot of movies on tv and DVD/BR though.
Sample conversion with friends:
-So are you going to see the new XXX (Marvel or whatever)
Me: Oh yeah, that's coming out sometime this summer (probably read about it on F:AT or elsewhere online).
-TODAY!
Me: Oh wow hah.
Completely out of the loop. Except maybe for Star Wars.

Yeah, seeing Mad Dog do a quick summation of the five last reviews I did reminded me how much more I'm seeing kid movies (cuz of Emily) than I used to. It's a fun dynamic and I'm always thankful to other parents when they clue me on or off of a kids movie. I think it was someone here that got me to not even consider Angry Birds. Something along the lines of, "if your kids ask you to take them to see this, tell them to fuck right off" lol. done and done.
