National Theater Live's filmed production of Frankenstein is making its way back into select theaters this year. It's directed by Danny Boyle and stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee . When it was on stage, Cumberbatch and Lee would trade off on the roles of Victor Frankenstein and the monster every other night.
I saw it a couple years ago and was *floored.*. Yes, this is a stage production, and there is an embarrassing steampunk scene early in, but this is the best adaptation of the novel I've seen. The version I saw had Cumberbatch as the monster, and as incredible as he was, I've heard the other version is even better.
I'm not sure which version they're showing this year, but I can say it's well worth your time if you don't mind watching a play. It'll never see a home video release and the chance to see it doesn't come around often
check the site to see if it's playing in your area.
