The literary John Carter is a fun, adventure loving, man of action. He doesn't brood, question himself, or scowl. He kicks ass, takes names, and gets his girl. The movie, as good looking as it was, had just the opposite characterization. It was an origin film but it wasn't necessary. JC is like Indiana Jones. He just is.
Plus Princess of Mars had a great environmental message, I can't believes they skipped it for the messy villain thing they did.
Michael Barnes wrote: Heh, I said Andrew Bird...I meant Andrew Stanton. Somehow conflated him with Brad Bird. Who probably would have made a better movie out of this.
Thank God. For a moment there, I thought I was going to have to come out of lurk mode and defend a movie that I don't recall ever having made!
