Excalibur is one of the greatest films of all time. But eh, Guy Ritchie movies can be dumb fun. I thought his Man From UNCLE was surprisingly good. So this might be entertaining enough.
This new movie looks like dung. I don't generally like movie scripts that deviate from well known stories like the Arthurian Legenda. It would take a lot to unseat Excalibur. For me, this new movie ain't going to pull the sword out from Excalibur's stone. But, by now, several generations probably haven't even heard of or seen Excalibur--what a shame.
Isn't this supposed to be the first of a 6 movie series? I liked his Sherlock Holmes steampunk action flicks so will probably find this fun, but no way does it beat Excalibur.
I'm a sucker for King Arthur and Robin Hood movies, but this one looks even worse than the execrable Ridley Scott Robin Hood movie, which I didn't think possible. Here's an interesting article on how Scott fucked up Robin Hood:
What a piece of shit. This won't replace Excalibur because it isn't Le Morte d'Arthur, it's a fucking superhero movie. It's the original Iron Man. The rat bastards. I'll still see it though ...
I first heard of Excalibur from a high school teacher. That weekend we rented it and as we turn on the TV, guess what was playing THAT VERY EVENING? That's right.
I must have watched it at least 3 times before bringing the tape back the next day.
There's a typo in the subject line of this thread. I believe it should read: "Sean Connery's First Knight replaced by King Arthur: Legend of the Sword?"

I might be the only impartial person in this thread to compare the two trailers, because I never saw Excalibur, but I have a basic familiarity with the stories of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.
Excalibur: Looks cheesy in a very '70s way, but seems to follow the source material more closely. Has a certain epic quality at times, but looks long with so many plot points in the trailer. I don't feel motivated to watch it, despite the favorable comments in this thread.
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword: Although the cinematography is decent, the tone is too modern and jarring for the subject matter. If I didn't know it was about King Arthur, this seems like a movie I might watch. Knowing that it is about King Arthur, it looks like almost a parody of the legends.
