I should probably get around to seeing the original Mad Max movies at some point.

So this is probably why TMN Encore were showing a trilogy marathon this week.

I can not stop watching that trailer. I've read up a bit on what Miller was going for, and if he can cash the checks he's writing, I think we're all in for a hell of a time. Very little dialogue, character development through actions in tense situations, and that the movie feels like a 2 hour long car chase.

My only concern about the trailer is that, with all of the CGI dust clouds and storms I'm hoping the movie isn't as claustrophobic as the trailer makes it seem. I love the wide open vistas of The Road Warrior where you can see Humongous' goons milling about the good guys' compound, or you can see all of the pursuing cars strung out beside and behind the tanker. Between all of the high angle shots and the bombastic orchestral score The Road Warrior had a truly epic feel that I hope Fury Road can match.

I've already fired up Fallout 3 and am eyeing Thunder Road.

Overall, pretty good. The 2nd half of the trailer worries me, though. Looks like lots of shitty CG in the sand storm. Obviously any modern movie has to do CG, but Mad Max's claim to fame is its amazing stunts and gritty realism.

Giving it a pass, because it has so much good stunt work elsewhere. James Cameron would CGI a guy eating a sandwich. I think Fincher has actually done that, except it was POV-Sandwich.
  • I like that it's gritty--I don't want fart jokes in my dystopias.
  • The make-up/costuming is on-point. Some cosplayers are probably getting ready for ComicCon already.
  • I did some frame-by-frame pauses in hi-def--there is some weird shit in there.

I am totally seeing this one.

And David Fincher is awesome, so if he wants a CG sandwich, let him be.

Exciting trailer. Looks like Miller may have cynically decided to re-film The Road Warrior with a bigger budget and a lot more action. But maybe I'm okay with that. In my book, The Road Warrior was one of the finest movies ever made. Great chase scenes. Great action. Just enough talking. So many memorable characters. Some humor, a little romance, and some keen insight into human nature.
