I'm more amused by the gratuitous crotch shot in the middle of the trailer that doesn't seem to have any association with any other part of the film being displayed. Kind of a "don't forget that Charlize is a dish" sort of thing. We're not just about senseless violence, we have some senseless sex too. But not too much! It's mostly about the violence.

The new MAD MAX movie will never happen. It's been floundering around in pre-production for over a decade at this point. I remember reading news about it in the 1990s "George Miller puts out casting call for local punks" and whatnot. For a while, it was being talked about as an "anime" movie (I guess by people who don't really know what anime is), and a video game for a while. If _anything_ happens, it'll probably be a game. The post-apoc zeitgeist kind of came and went over the past year, which would have been prime time for it happen. When a movie flops around for so long like this, it usually means there's signficant problems either with the script, financing, involved principles, or other issues that are keeping it from going anywhere.

George Miller would do better to revisit his BABE franchise, that would have more likelihood of a resurgence.

Tom Hardy is the fucking man. BRONSON is a terrific picture, his performance in that is aim-for-the-fences great. He was good in INCEPTION too, even if it was more of support role. That guy could do big things in the right projects.

Pretty stoked, but still cautious. I mean 98% on rotten tomatoes could mean all these reviewers think it's a 6/10. I have read some stellar reviews though...

At any rate, we've got our opening night tickets at the Drafthouse. I haven't seen a flick opening weekend, much less opening night, since Phantom Menace.

I've been following Rotten tomato metrics for some time and 98% for an action or sci-fi movie always means it's amazing. The only time you have to worry about super high scores on Rotten possibly meaning a ton of 6/10 is with dramas and ESPECIALLY foreign movies. People gives thumbs up on art movies that they don't understand all the time. Leviathan is a recent example of this, but I realize I'm in the minority on this one.

So it sounds like i'm going to have to eat my hat on the Mad Max biness. I was totally predicting another John Carter and it sounds like Tom Hardy totally has delivered the goods. I look forward to seeing it now. The trailers still turn me WAY off though.

Barnes, I forgot you said that BOB from Black Hole comment. So awesome. Cuz of my IBS/IBD, I'm very much like Bob right after I eat. A total mess.

edit: White, it's averaging a 9/10 on Rotten. I forgot that they disclose scores now too and not just thumbs. Sounds like the real frickin' deal this movie.

The Road Warrior is one of my all-time favorite movies. During college, I had a Road Warrior movie poster tacked up until it got ruined in a snowball fight inside our room. My first car (a bronze chevy nova) even looked vaguely like a car from that movie, after my grandfather helped me cover some large rust holes by riveting on some sheet metal panels. The movie itself was nearly perfect. Action, humor, character development, and a whole cast of quirky characters who seemed instantly familiar, along with two great villains. So I was devastated at the awfulness that was Thunderdome. I'm trying to keep my expectations low for Fury Road, because the trailer looks like one long car chase, absent any other story elements that I might have enjoyed.

I think I can do without Han Solo and Co., but my enthusiasm for Fury Road is building.

Be warned, I understand that this Furiosa character is almost pretty much the main character in the film and Max is along for the ride. I'm cool with that. Then again, as much as I dig Hardy, I'd still prefer he wasn't playing the Max Rockatansky character, but some other wasteland warrior.

I see no reason we couldn't continue to have stories in this universe with non-Rockatansky characters.

Which seems incredible because it feels like this film has been in development hell for the better part of a decade and a half. If it's really this great, I'd be interested in hearing the story on how this was pulled off. Maybe some future documentary on the making of Fury Road?

There are 2 reasons it was delayed about 5 years once production was seriously started that have nothing to do with the film being bad. Firstly we were in drought in Australia for 10 years and then just as they were about to start filming the drought broke and large swathes of the country were severely flooded twice in a two year period. This meant that all accessible appropriate filming locations were under water and then green with vegetation for another year or two. So filming had to be halted and eventually they just gave up waiting and filmed in Namibia.

The second was that after the initial shoot, they showed a rough cut to the studio and the studio loved it so much that they threw extra money at them to go out and make it bigger and better, so they had a second period of filming that delayed the release by another year.

I thought there was a lot more than that.

Weren't they going to make this in the early 00's, but the Iraq War put it on hold? I also thought Heath Ledger was going to star....then he died. Then there was the move to just make it an anime that Barnes mentioned.

It feels like there were other drama/events that I'm missing....

I'm not saying the film was ever bad, just surprised it seems to have overcome all these obstacles (to include time) and be as great as it appears. I guess I feel like it seems that when a flick has this many starts and stops...the end result is a bit rough to say the least.
