Back in January, my college roommate called me and asked if I'd be interested in what he termed an online discussion about various songs and albums. We brought some more people aboard and it's kind of morphed into a podcast called The Takedown Notice. Think of it kind of like a book club for music, where we choose songs and albums to talk about. Our editor blends in a lot of snippets of songs that come up during the conversation, and we try hard to keep the episode lengths down to a manageable size.
I've sensed some ambivalence about podcasting here in the Fort, but I think we've done some good work on this one. The discussions in the earlier episodes are a bit windy, but we've tightened up with each episode. The audio quality on the early episodes is frankly a little crappy, but starting in the most recent episode (episode 5, released yesterday) we've started recording locally. We're not into nearly the same level of obscure music as a lot of people around here, so it'll spin a bit more mainstream than some people here might enjoy. Still I'm excited about where it's going and about how it keeps improving. Also, I mention the F:AT Smiths vs. REM debacle in our second episode, so all y'all get a shout-out there.
