Marvel Secret Wars?

Wise Ameritrash Comicbook guys, can anyone give some insight to Marvel Secret Wars. The best explanation or guess I've heard is that Marvel (Disney) wanted to redivide the characters and license for future movie rights. The ads look like a hot mess.

So any thought on the new Universe? Any one planning getting into Secret Wars?

Eh, I tried but it's a typical Marvel summer event...meaning that it's like a freaking maze of issues branching off from a "main" book, and preluded by a bunch of other issues so it's pretty much jibber-jabber unless you've kept up with those AND the last year or so of Marvel continuity. I read the first three and was just confused and kind of bored.

Read the old one instead, it still rules!

It was inevitable that Marvel's sliding time scale would eventually become too confining for creative teams. Now they are pulling a DC-Style reboot on a scale comparable to the ground-breaking year-long Crisis on Infinite Earths of the mid-80s. Marvel had a big event in the mid-80s too, though it was a pathetic toy marketing scheme compared to DC's Crisis. Anyway, this new Marvel event is an excuse to mix and match a whole bunch of different Marvel realities in hopes of generating short-term sales and maybe medium-term interest. These reboots are generally a bad long-term strategy, as too many good ideas from the mainstream continuity get thrown away in favor of half-assed ideas by current creators. See DC's New 52 for how well that kind of crap plays out.
