Return of the Friday Freakout

I was really just asking out of curiosity. Partly curious about how often you actually do solve problems "with your fist" and partly curious because just talking about violence as a possibility is so alien to me. Don't get me wrong I'm not in any way aiming to be rude or holier than thou here - I was simply wondering about all this talk about violence because you do seem like a guy who is good enough at talking with people to never actually need it.

I'm actually one of the easiest-going people ever. I treat people well, I am generous, kind in general, and I am actually really nonviolent in almost all cases. I haven't hit anyone in anger in years and years.

Really, when was the last time you heard me talking about this, anyhow? I mean, I know people perceive that, which is fine, but really, it seems that if you talk about certian things even a few times people automatically assume that you're some cowboy barbarian.

It is what it is. I make no excuses. I do add some zest to things to spice things up since I do so enjoy poking people in the psyche with a sharp stick, but in reality, I'm almost 40 at this point and I just don't get into trouble like I did when I was 20. I think that's true of us all, though.

Nothing is holy here. Mickey's only character flaw is that he really is crass and faux-racist to a point that makes even me uncomfortable. He really does have a thing for black folks, though, for understandable reasons although I don't condone it. We tell all kinds of raunchy jokes, Mick sits and tokes on a joint all night, passing it between Clayton and my wife (I gave up drugs long ago...) and none of us are possible to offend.

We don't throw things at one another, and games that take 1 hour to play usually take 1.5 hours because we're bullshitting and laughing, rolling up joints, getting drinks, or whatever. We're not really interested so much in winning as hanging out, laughing, and having a great time.

Yeah, there's a difference between some neanderthal meathead who gets mad over a game enough to throw shit and a bunch of people who are having fun and just hanging out, who happen to know how to hurt people badly and aren't afraid of conflict.

Billy knows Mickey. Steve Avery, Ken, all these guys know me personally. I'm just me, no false pretense, no bullshit, and all I want to do is get through life having fun and helping people as best I can along the way.

that's awesome, pete. Sounds like a fun place to play. I just wanted to check if we were talkin' about a gang that swings at the fences or are totally cool. Sounds like a great group of folks. I hear about the faux racist stuff. My buddies and I engage sometimes in light fare but it's all very reasonable. My brother-in-law goes way over the top and it's SUPER uncomfortable, I know what you mean.

Susan, there's a huge difference between the two. Do we have to explain it? The real life situation totally had someone disrespecting Pete's wife in front of him and others. Pete's reaction is more coarse than mine but I think it's a measured response.

The girl in the forums is a big girl and is interested in a lively debate (judging by the wording of her posts). Internet forum social norms are very different than real life as well.

someone said it perfectly a few months ago when they got banned. There is like this very small distinction to how to be honest and argue on that site in order to not get banned. I think you were too honest. i THINK you're also not allowed to attack an OP but I'm not sure. To them, it probably looked like bullying and that was that.

Now, now. Where, exactly, have I said that you were rude or disrespectful over there in that thread? That post above that you linked to is so very mild. She practically apologizes at the end of it. This statement was actually humorous: "Frankly I rate your comments as an "epic fail" of misguided moral superiority. I suggest you come down off your high horse before you fall and hurt yourself." I mean, c'mon - with all your giving her a hard time about putting games before friendship you didn't sound all morally superior and high-horsey!??! I DO agree that the virtually-violated-same-logic-that-a-rapist-uses crap is dumb. But most of what the OP posts seemed to be polite and trying to defend, explain and get the conversation back to the topic she was actually asking in the first place.

Freakout over for me. My threshold for some things is obviously different than Pete's. I'd like to freak out some more but actually have to do some work today .
