Man, that Battle Academy looks amazing. Now accepting donations I'm trying to convince my wife to try Puerto Rico. We played analog Agricola and she did not care for it too much. I really didn't either. I'm a little skeptical as it appears to be VERY similar. Plants vs. Zombies really wasn't my sup of tea when I tried it forever ago on pc.

My dark horse pick is Samurai. It's a great universal app, although it's completely unsupported by the publisher at this point.

I do love carcassonne on the iPad. I hope they decide to put out some more expansions.

I can say it is amazing. Sure its a high price compared with other apps, but there is a lot of quality gaming there. Solo campaigns to keep you busy, two player 'PBEM' games, choose your forces games, and so on. IAPs keep you playing if required (haven't needed them yet), and can design maps (not sure if iPad can do this, but certainly user creations out there).
Finally you can play against friends with PCs and Macs, so most everyone.
Recommended!

It's worth every cent. It's the most played game on my iPad by miles and miles and miles.
What you have to realise is that most of the time, those two dollar apps are brief, time-wasting distractions. Battle Academy is an actual, proper, fully-featured strategy game that just happens to run on the iPad. It is therefore entirely fair that the price is comparable to other proper, fully-featured strategy games that just happen to run on the PC.
I reviewed it here:

If it had asynch multiplayer it would be great.

I told Neumann at BGG about it, he may cover the story, which might get them more money, which might hasten development of 2P.
Same company makes Civil War 1863, which is the same game engine, but civil war units. They also run HEXWAR.COM, which is a bad ass online "VASSEL-like" which allows you to play all the old school SPI wargames online.
Also, is anyone still playing UniWar?

I'd also throw in another vote for Battle Academy. Yes it's $20, but there is a LOT of gameplay involved. If it has a drawback, its that it's probably best played in longer chunks of time, not 5 minute bursts like so many other apps.

Reiner Knizia's Labyrinth to be precise.
