I predict it will continue to the North East and not hit land at all. I am a meteorological optimist and a "media induced hysteria" pessimist.

I ordered groceries and put a post it note in my car to remind me to keep my gas tank full.

Over in Italy 11 scientists were just arrested AND CONVICTED of not properly predicting an earthquake.

Be careful what you predict! :)

Good luck all, and be careful!

The wind is beginning to pick up here, from the north, and the storm is currently off the Georgia coast. That's quite a reach.

Crap.

Work sent out business continuity plans. Not a good sign.

I haven't seen one of those yet, but the weasels responsible for communicating that stuff are based in San Diego--even though the bulk of the staff are in the DC region. Historically, they suddenly realize that 80% of the work force has fallen off the grid well after comms have broken down completely. I expect to see something Tuesday after the DC HQ has been without power for 36 hours or so....

Prediction: dogs and cats, living in sin, mass hysteria.

I've got my generator gassed up, 20 gallons in reserve. Bring it on.

I keep getting texts from work testing out the emergency contact plan they've set up. I'm guess we'll be closed. I'm cool with that. I may miss out on pay, but somewhere, someone will be saying, "But....I need my fucking skinny, no whip, no foam, extra hot, oat milk mocha latte!"

And that makes the whole thing worth while.

We just got our first rain, but nothing so far has been canceled or delayed. I'm sure schools will be closed most of the week. My two clients haven't said a word yet, and in theory I was to meet someone flying in tonight for a meeting tomorrow. Only a fool would get on that flight, but she's slated for a management position so she may be on her way.

We're used to this kind of stuff and everyone in my area has a generator because we lose power once or twice a year. What's curious this time is that the weather has that pre-hurricane feel you get six hours before the storm arrives but it's not due for 36. There's some serious hang-fire attitude going on because everyone is so prepared so far ahead of time.

The Mayor issued a state of emergency and shut down the city. So I'm telecommuting tomorrow.

It's cool being the boss, I got to decide that I'm not going to work tomorrow so the gym is closed. Looking like we'll miss Tuesday too! I do really hope things are worked out by Weds though cause we're supposed to have a big Halloween party and costumed climbing comp.

Sucks that if things get really wild here at the house we have about a 10k "hurricane" deductible which will totally fuck us if we need to pay it to get big work done. But otherwise I'm kinda into getting to just do nothing for at least a day.

I was scheduled to come in on my day off tomorrow. I'm affording myself the luxury of not going in. Tuesday is a different story; if the winds aren't crazy I'll probably make it.

As far as a Halloween costume, I thought of throwing something together and going to work dressed as Noah.
