Games in Schools and Libraries Podcast...

More

I hope nobody minds me shilling for my podcast, and I'm certainly not going to post a thread every time an episode goes up, but here goes:

Games in Schools and Libraries is a podcast with Donald Dennis (of On Board Games fame) and Giles Pritchard (of... um... nevermind) about, as the name subtly implies, the use of board, card and digital games in schools and the local library.

I announced the podcast when we first began, but we had teething troubles with our RSS feed, I'm happy to be able to finally say these issues have been sorted out and, if you're curious, you can find us on iTunes or subscribe via your favourite podcatcher.

So far we're up to episode 9 - which is all about books and games. But we've covered a range of other topics, from accessibility issues, to what to look for in a game for the class or library.

Our past topics so far are:

0 - Our introductory episode
1 - History of board games (the lost episode)
2 - History of Digital games
3 - What are characteristics of 'good games' - durability, easy set-up and play etc.
4 - Rules/mechanisms that aid or impede the use of games.
5 - Space - making a space ready for playing games.
6 - Themes - Can themes help make a game easier to digest - good themes etc.
7 - Themes - What themes aren't suitable for a school/library setting.
8 - Accessibility - physical accessibility issues.
9 - Books and Games - books that are about games, and games that are about books.

We hope that anyone who listens will find the podcast useful and interesting, and we'd love any feedback!

So - onto the links:

If you listen, drop us a line or comment here or in the guild to let us know what you think! It's early days at the moment, and we have a big list of topics we want to cover, but any and all feedback is much appreciated!

Cheers,

Giles.
