Help me find a UK venue for geeky comedy show

Mid February I and two of my colleagues will be visiting Leicester Comedy Festival with a stand-up show called The Geeks Strike Back. It's all about geek culture - Star Wars, LotR, board games, computer games, zombies, and so on - and we will of course perform in English. Now, the thing is that we only have two shows at Leicester (the 15th and 16th), but would love to do an extra show somewhere relatively nearby - in London for instance. But we need a venue that would a) be willing to have us perform and b) would put just a bit of effort into getting a crowd. So, the question is: do any of you guys know of a place that could fit?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Ask if you need to know more.

The comedy clubs that I have been to in the UK I think allow anyone to perform something like a 30 minute set on certain nights. You just need to contact them in advance. I'm not sure if they pay the performers for this.

The Comedy Store might be a good one to look at for you.

Normally you can't just get 30 minutes in any comedy club without having first done a lot of open mike spots. The same goes for The Comedy Store which even has a gong show for open mike (you have to remain on stage for 5 minutes without being gonged off). So in my experience (both from Denmark and other countries) comedy clubs are not that easy to perform in - especially not if you want to do more than a five minute open mike spot. So while I think it's a great club, it's not really a good fit for our show.

What we could use is actually something that's not neccesarily a comedy club, but just some sort of venue that would be interested in arranging stuff and which would know how to cater to a geeky crowd. We'd contact game stores and such in advance and maybe send them some material. And we would love to get a cut of the tickets since plane tickets aren't cheap :-)

There are always venues that you can hire out in any city and sell tickets to your gig. I only know Manchester and Glasgow, both of which aren't that near Leicester. In Manchester, Retro Bar has a basement that I think used to cost £200 to rent out for a night and then you could sell your own tickets and they would run the bar.

The best people to ask about these kind of venues are punk bands. Try to find a geeky London based punk band. They will know all the best little venues you can hire.

BGG have a bigger community so you might have better luck trying on the UK/England forum there.
