Realizations

So I realized something the other day. I would rather play more of the good games I have, than spend a ton of time learni g a new game. I recently made a trade for Race for the Galaxy and received World of Warcraft the Boardgame from our math trade.

While I am definitely interested and excited to learn and play these games, I've come to realize that I would much rather play and enjoy the games I have and love, than learn new games regularly and go through the pain in the ass of reading these booklets and figuring out rules.

I know a lot of people already feel like this and have discussed it, I've just joined the club.

You shouldn't let the rules or learning curve dissuade you from RftG, it's one of the richest game experiences I've found. Pick up the first expansion and play with yourself.

Oh no no, I can't wait to learn these. I'm just saying in general that I've got plants of quality games that don't get enough play.

Talisman 4th, TTR, Adventurers Temple of Chac, Arkham Horror, Ascension, Drakon, Penny Arcade GvE, Heroscape.

I had Dominion Intrigue but that's what I traded for Race. Seriously, with Ascension and Penny Arcade GvE, who needs Dominion?

I generally agree with you, I've only picked up 3 new games this year (King of Tokyo, Agricola, and Spartacus), all were games I previously played and very much enjoyed. I'm pretty excited to enter this phase of being a gamer.

I feel the same way, Cloudy. Except that I'm not a total n00b.

The games I get into, I get really into. Like 400-plus plays ... or 1,000-plus plays, in a couple of rare cases. The games that don't really grab me? One play, maybe two. If I even get to them; maybe they're just shelf-candy.

I think of it as being the Anti-Vasel.

It's better to be a n00b in few games than a n00b in many games.

I just had this conversation with a friend this weekend. I've just been to burnt to learn a bunch of new rules after work on weekday.
