The Disc Golf, Do You Play It?

Back when we played a lot, my wife and I took a disk golf/ Reds game vacation. I remember Winton Woods being a really nice course, with a little creek running through it. But I could have that one confused with Woodland Mound.

It's Woodland you're thinking of. No creek at Winton Woods. You fully should come visit!

The best one here, IMO, is "Lincoln Ridge" which used to be "Banklink". Really great course, lots of varied terrain, up hills, down hills, around corners.

Today's my last day of holiday...maybe I'll go play today.

I have a Champion Valkyrie and a Supersoft Wizard putter. I used to have like 10 discs but some cunt I loaned them to stole them, and honestly, I never used many others except in weird circumstances. I like the Eagle and Star in weird curvy shots. I used to throw 400 feet but since I got sick and stopped playing for a couple years, now I can maybe throw 150-200 at best.

Man, was I ever good. I shot a 4 on Idlewild's hole 15. It was the pinnacle of my disc golf game. It's a thousand foot hole on rolling hills.

I think that round I shot -10 or -11.

Wow that course would destroy me. Here's the one we frequent.

God, you guys are giving me the itch again.

I had _2_ Eclipses, one was the hard-edged driver, and the other was a softer one that must've been a really old design that I used for midrange shots. I found it at Blendon Woods, and still has the owner's name in it (sorry, Dan Woods). I had an Innova Phenix(sp) that I bought as a beginner and I couldn't throw it for shit. Even when I got decent, it was 50/50 if I would be in the trees. And I had an Aviar putter.

I should, if nothing else, take my daughter disk golfing and do Blendon Woods with nothing but an old frisbee. I remember going silently nuts when there was a big family out there in front of me with their frisbees. At least then I can get some payback. :)

I've been sticking to just 4 discs over the last month or so. I've got a Valkyrie (which I just upgraded to champion, totally worth it), a Destroyer for when you need that hook, a Buzz and an Aviar for a putter.

$70 my ass, Sag.

My wife and I just started playing at the beginning of this year. I bought two 3-disk sets off Amazon, one for $20 and one for $30, just to see if there was any difference (of course, my wife got the "more expensive" set). She teased me because it was part of her birthday present, but she thought I was just doing it for myself. Turns out, she became a bigger addict than I did.

We're both still pretty terrible, but it gives us a great excuse to walk around for a couple of hours, and the dog loves it, too.

We recently splurged and bought ourselves a couple of nicer drivers, but I think that was probably a mistake. I know my wife's new one is out of her league, but psychologically she thinks it's better. My new one goes a little farther, but I also think my throw has improved.

We see people on the course all the time with huge bags full of disks, but I can't imagine ever really needing more than 3.

This is the only course we've played so far, since it's only a couple of miles from our house.

Discraft XL Pro D Driver has 0.0 Stability, which roughly translates into "It goes pretty straight if you throw it really hard." Just get one of those and use it for everything. Throw it really hard from the tee and it'll go straight. Throw it less hard when you're close, and it'll break left a bit. I've wrecked and gouged my Discraft drivers up pretty well, and they still generally work as advertised.

Also watch a YouTube video or two on how to throw a disc golf disc. I originally tried to throw it like a regular frisbee and it didn't work well.

I've thought about getting one of those 3-disc sets with a bag, but I have fun with just my one disc and water bottle.

I used to play this when I was 20 at Essex University which is/was a big campus university with sprawling grounds with a Frisbee golf course.

My preferred time for playing was 4am on a Sunday morning while speeding my tits off (nothing else to do as everyone else was asleep). Tried it once on acid but lost the Frisbee after about the third throw....disappeared into the glittery ether or something.

Have never tried it without being absolutely fucked....I thought it was a requirement.
