Killing the 'What have you...' threads?

Those are the threads I follow the most here... board games, movies, TV shows, etc. I recall a couple years ago trying to do without them, but it ended up more disparate and cluttered, with several threads about several games, none of which were likely to get much attention. I like that the "what have you" threads are what they are, but then occasionally something spills outside of them into its own thread, where a different conversation leads.

New users usually seem to find there way into those threads, but the key is probably to let them know to use the "new since last visit" links. It would be hard to really keep up on everything in that thread, but that's the way to navigate it best, I think. Perhaps Uba's first post in that thread could invite newbies to do that.

I could get behind a monthly thing, though, but I definitely wouldn't want to see them go, altogether.

I like those threads. When I want to say something quick I drop it there. When I want more discussion on a particular part I just make a new thread. Contemplating to make a Let' Talk Survive thread.

I visit the forums here almost solely for the "What Have You" threads. I like the rapid discussions it generates (since I'm of the opinion that it doesn't take very many words to say pretty much everything there is to say about most board games, so I don't want to read a multi-page thread devoted to one title). It also gives me a good feel for which new titles are getting a lot of hype, and which classics grab this community's attention.

I love those threads. They are a great way to tell anecdotes that wouldn't have a place anywhere else and kickstart a conversation.
