Turns out I'm going to Dallas next week (yay for last minute changes!) to visit some family. Last time I was down there my kids were babies. now, a couple years older they can better enjoy some of the things a large city has to offer. Well...sort of, the oldest is only 5. Still, any suggestions around the area for things to do with kids that age? Gillette, Wyoming is about 2 hours from anything...which is another 3 hours to any large city. So we want to take advantage of being around dallas if we can.
We'll be going to one of the zoos, but that's about as far as I've thought. My grandparents are in the area....and while they've lived there a long time, they don't do much in the city. recommendations on food? I'd kill for some decent barbecue.

Dallas World Aquarium. Place is really, really cool and perfect for kids that age. This is the best thing to do with kids in Dallas. It's an indoor rainforest, must see to believe. It's incredible. NOT THE DALLAS ZOO, which is horrible.
Botanical Gardens and Arboretum. Depends on the kids. Lots of butterflies and plants, but that's about it. Also, it's fucking HOT, but right on a lake.
Heritage Village. Bad ass for kids.
Perot Museum. THIS IS THE SHIT.

Food:
Barbecue? Bodacious is great. Avoid Smokey Bones and Bone Daddy. Well, Bone Daddy is tilted kilt, but with bbq, so that's fine for men and lesbians. Not kids. I always go to Colter's, a chain, but a bad ass chain, because I used to live by one. Better than Dickeys, for sure.
Rio is good too, but a bit on the pricier side without being crazy. Brazilian Steakhouse.

I was on the fence about the aquarium....the one in Denver is awful, so that's good to hear positive about the Dallas one. I saw the heritage village, and kind of dismissed, i'll look into it. Ft. worth zoo is nicer than the dallas one from what I remember.
