Here in Québec, the teachers have been striking a few days here and there this Fall to oppose the gov's "austerity" measures and get reasonable salary raises - so far the government's only offering a 2% total raise over 5 years. We've had to deal with 6 strike days since the end of September and there are 3 more this week. Kind of a headache for parents all over the province, some had to use their vacation days they were hoping to use over the holidays. It's not so fun. My MIL's been kind enough to come over and watch our daughter.

Yeah that's been stressing me out too. My ex wife has custody right now and doesn't work often so she's been able to deal with it Ok. Like this Wednesday, she's going to a girlfriends house floor an all day play date.

But next September, I'm getting full time custody and I'm not sure what I'll do when this type of thing happens. My work has been really cool able it and said that Quebec based staff who are affected by this can make arrangements with their boss to work from home or take vacation days, personal obligation days or whatever. I've got so much vacation saved up I would probably just use that

The real question here is--is it pronounced KAY-BECK or QWUH-BECK?

I thought so, but you still hear newscasters call it "KWUH-BECK." Damn it Murrica!

EDIT: I just looked it up and apparently both are valid. What the actual fuck, man, now I"m gonna have to go all MUMBAI on somebody's ass.

Are you pronouncing it in English or French ? In French it's the former (keh-beck). In English it's the latter.

I recommend the former unless you're one of these idiots that pronounces fancy Montblanc pens as MON-BLAH-NKUH

What's the wine that everyone mispronouces too?

As Barney said, English Canadians also say KWUH-BECK.

Nono, it's not Chianti. Is it Pinot Blonk?

You're thinking of Thunderbird. It's pronounced Hooch.

Also - I loved the Burger king Cross-an-wich
