As someone who is usually into "space news" I'm dumbfounded by how the media and general public has treated this event. Kinda cool for a shadow to go over the sun, but we landed a fucking probe on a comet in 2014 and 95% of the population can't name that project or be bothered to give it any coverage.

Through a S14 welding glass, the left bright bit is the lens flare. We got about 95% ish.

Really neat photo

Forget Imgur, this is the totality picture I took from my phone. I wasn't packing any serious gear, but those pictures other people did will be cool to see.

Had a great time watching the eclipse today. Went across the street with my daughter and sat on the back porch of the Elks club mansion with our eclipse viewing glasses. Even though we had a maximum of 61% coverage, it was still thrilling to watch it happen. At one point at about maximum coverage, an eagle swooped in from behind us and landed in a tree just above a US flag waving from a flagpole. It sat there above the flag and squawked madly at the sun. "US eclipse" indeed!

We had almost two minutes of totality here, it was very surreal to have my 4 year old son jumping on his trampoline under a burning ring of fire in the sky :) He was pretty good with the glasses until the end of the totality when the sun came back out, hopefully 3 seconds of that doesn't blind him. I figure it will probably be his earliest memory later on, it's pretty hard to match it.

Those are totally awesome, Disgustipater. Thanks! We didn't get much more than about 80% in Michigan and had a lot of cloud cover.

93 percent. Watched it on campus with my entire family (My oldest son is visiting from Oregon). It was pretty cool, but not the mind blowing trip into the cosmic underworld that my friend described who drove up to Idaho this morning. I should have just gone for it and not been so timid or worried about traffic.

He's not the kind of guy to post stuff on Facebook besides beer and golf jokes, and he was going on quite eloquently about how he wept and didn't know why.

Maybe it was because we could all share a sense of wonder (or at least interest) in something that didn't involve stupid human drama for just a short moment.

What would usually be a 1-hour drive home took me 3.5 hours. Still completely worth it.

Well, all of California went to Oregon.

Luckily, nobody knows where Idaho is. I drove about 30 miles north, on a back road outside a tiny town called Emmett. There were people. There was even some traffic. But I left my house a little about 9, I staked out a spot on the side of the road with room for chairs and nobody in my way at about 9:45, totality was at 11:30, and I was back in my house before 1:00pm.

Some other places were supposed to have had significant traffic, but mine wasn't worse than "small town hosts a parade" levels.

My wife noped out, so I just took the kids and had a fine time.
