OK, all you FATies on the US east coast - anyone got some good photos or stories of your big dump over there, even you guys way down south who have never seen it before ?

My story is that after making an hour drive to get home from work on Sunday (which usually only takes about 20 minutes), I was ready to stay home on Monday. No way in hell was I going to work! Hung out with my downstairs neighbors, made plans to play games all day the next day, and stayed up real late.

I got up in the morning and went to work.

I don't live on the East Coast, but the snow on my front walk is 19 inches deep...I never shoveled it after our first big storm two weeks ago, and we've had two other snowfalls since.

Washington was spared this time. I live east of the city and we picked up about two inches, but after last winter that seemed like a dusting. No one even shoveled. DC itself got less than an inch.

More snow came down both south and north of us.

I live in Saint Paul, Minnesota. I took this picture two days ago, at the parking lot of a grocery store on Sunday morning:

We have had five snow emergencies so far this winter, starting in mid-November. Every single one of them has happened on a weekend, so the overtime pay for the plow drivers is breaking budgets of various local governments. City of Minneapolis is reportedly $3 million over budget for snow removal already.

Nothing all that exciting to tell, but I just shoveled for the last hour...whew.

Had to clear out the fire hydrant in front, even though it's really my landlord's responsibility.

I visited New York once, during springtime, and it was freezing. Tropical weather is the best. Anyway, when I heard about the heavy snowfall in New York, I kept thinking about Rockefeller Center and how it's like a big pit in the ground. If that gets snowed in, how do they get the snow out?

I posted this to my Facebook page, after being alerted to it on our local weathercaster's blog:

Time lapse photography of New Jersey blizzard. Very cool! 32" of snow fell, and is recapped in 38 seconds.

Reminds me of the blizzard of 1978 when I was a kid...don't know if Uba or any other F:ATties in the Northeast remember that one...but it was incredible (and being a kid made it seem even more so!)

Damn but that was fun!

Roger Ebert says this homemade snowstorm video deserves to win an Academy Award. The December 26, 2010 blizzard video impressed Ebert so much, he said he thinks the mini-film deserves to win the Academy Award for best live-action short. December 26, 2010, New York, blizzard.

My street in Brooklyn was finally plowed late last night. It's awesome that 4 bucks from every pack of cigarettes I buy goes directly to the city, not to mention a big chunk of my earnings, and you can't get your street plowed if you don't live in Manhattan. My street had snow up to the side mirrors on cars from one side of the street to the other.
