I wish there was something I could offer besides prayers and condolences. Such a helpless feeling. Stay strong Tom.

There's a geeklist auction going on at BGG to help the Vasels with their medical expenses which I'm sure are substantial. I can't imagine dealing with what they've just gone through and then being handed an astronomical bill.

I've got some great but unplayed games that I can part with to help the family out.

My heart goes out to you and your family Tom, this is heart breaking. Please keep your faith as this is a truly dark and shaking time. I can only suggest to reach out to others who have gone through this when you are ready. It helped us a little.

Prayers for you and your family.

Tom is a F:ATtie...we should do something for his family here. Do you guys want to do a charity auction, pass the hat or something?

OK...why don't we do our own charity auction then. We obviously won't have as much to give as BGG, but I think it would be nice for us as a community to show our support. I'm sure any bit of financial help would at least ease some of the material stress the Vasel family is going through right now.

Does anyone want to volunteer to manage the money part of it, as in taking in the bids and then passing it on to them?

I'll set up a forum for the auction, and a paypal account for it.

Barebones of Auction forum has been set up: Benefit Auction Forum

There is a thread stickied there for further discussion, so we can take the discussion of the crass details over there and leave this thread for the expression of condolences.

This is awful. This is so sudden. I too thought Jack was doing better. I lost my eldest son to cancer 6 years ago this Feb 7, so I have an inkling of what he's going through, but we had a year and a half to prepare and he was 4, not a little baby.

I can't get Tom's video from when he found out he was having a boy out of my head.

I'm totally down with an auction.

I can't even begin to imagine what he and his family is going through. Tom, whom I have never met, has always been upbeat and positive in his videos. And even in the Jack video that was posted that personality and outlook on life comes through. These situations are always tough and it is only tougher when it happens to a good man like Tom. My thoughts and prayers are with him.
