TOPIC: THE Wii (U) Family/Party Game?

THE Wii (U) Family/Party Game? 09 Jun 2014 08:37 #179997

We're getting the Wii U this week, but Wii U Party doesn't seem to be all that great. Looking for something the (almost) 4 year old can play with us, so I'm thinking something from the Wii generation.

So, what was the best one?

Wii Sports
Wii Sports Resort
Wii Play
Wii Play Motion
NintendoLand (simple enough for 4 yr old?)
Some other title (not Mario Party...I don't want to have to commit to a whole game, but mini games the kids can check in and out of)

We've played a ton of Wii Sports and Sports Resort. Not so much Wii Play.

Mario Party is decent. The levels and minigames are fun, but that talking hat thing that always wants to talk you through the game is kind of annoying.

Mario Kart is fun, but has a bit more of a stressful/arcade style to it that isn't necessarily as good for an entire evening of family gaming.

For whatever reason we've played a lot of Tiger Woods too. Since you get up and actually swing your club it's held our interest more than any other golf game. It's a good game to play while you're BS-ing or otherwise socializing. The Wii Sports golf didn't grab us as much. The Wii Sports Frisbee Golf is really good though.

Nintendoland. River has been playing it since he was 3. Scarlett can manage a couple of the simpler ones at 2. It's really fun and tons of Nintendo charm. The Zelda, Mario Chase, and Luigi's Mansion games are the favorites here. The Metroid one is a little advanced for them.

Boom Blox is really good if your kids can get the timing of the throws down...without slinging the control.

Wii Play isn't very good...really simplistic stuff.

Wii Sports/Wii Sports Resort are both worthwhile. Wii Sports Club is the new version of it, individual sports are available for download.
