I've not played the original 8ME, just the "Legends" version, and I've never been sure what the differences are. Still, I really like it for being more or less as advertised (think: 8 minutes per player). It's actually surprisingly meaty, given how few moving parts there are, and yet it doesn't bog down.

I really classify it as "El Grande Light"

How do we know that Superfly Pete really wrote this? There is not a single reference to poop, barbed wire or anal violation.

Do you prefer the original version to Legends? I'm interested in getting one or the other and on BGG consensus seems to be that Legends is simply better. However, to me the original seems to be more focused, while Legends simply adds more stuff and I'm not sure whether the additions are all that interesting.

I like them both. Legends is probably the better of the two, if only because it adds variable player powers and a little more combat. They're mostly the same game but this is much more Euro where Legends has a smattering of AT in it.
