Skull Review was created by Matt Thrower

It's often not the rules or the components that make a game. With Skull, it's the little noises. The tut of tongue against teeth. A soft sigh. A full-throated chuckle. Ambiguous sounds uttered before a card gets flipped over and all hell breaks loose.

I've long thought of picking this up for playing with The Casual Players Club. It seems like a great game for at a bar.

It definitely is the perfect bar game. I think this is based off of an old bar game actually that was played with coasters. I seem to recall playing something similar in my army days.

This is a great review Matt, I'm somewhat astounded by your ability to say so much about a game like this. I love the game, but it's hard to write more than a couple of paragraphs about it.

As of late, there has definitely been a big surge of what I call "Look You In The Eyes and Lie to You" games. I'll admit to having a soft spot for them; I love to bluff. I love to tell the truth 95% of the time and find that 5% to turn the knife.

I'm wondering when I'll reach my quota of them. I mean, they do run the gamut from ultra light (Cockroach Poker, Resistance) to medium (Coup, Sheriff of Nottingham) to heavier (Shadows Over Camelot, Battlestar Galactica). This game definitely seems to boil the whole thing down to its essence, so it's probably worth a look for me. This also reminds me I need to get a copy of Cockroach Poker for myself at some point, what a stupid fun game that is.

This is probably my favorite pub game. I started playing it when I lived in Aus and have been cracking it out ever since

Great review. Love this game. I far prefer the design and artwork in Skull to the faux biker stuff in skull and Roses

I keep meaning to pick this up. Like Mr. White, I've got a group of casual players and stuff like this is perfect those game nights. This game is popular and it seems to go OOP fairly regularly. In the US it currently seems to be hard to find.

I also think the new edition's artwork trumps the biker gang stuff in the original game.

Yeah, what?!

This was going for about $20 on amazon not too long ago. The CPC is scheduled to go to a micro-brewery next week, so I was gonna order it. I see it's now about $50!

Guess I'll be making my own out of coasters...

I agree that Skull is great. I played it for at least an hour with my brother and nephew one afternoon. Three player is super quick and different.

I like the kinds of games that Ken is talking about and I've been building a stable of games I can play with just about anyone and most allow for high player counts: Avalon, Spyfall (was a gift before I had even heard of the game), One Night Ultimate Werewolf, and Skull. Toss Hanabi and Red7 in there although they don't involve bluffing or lying. I really enjoyed Codenames over GenCon too. I'll need to pick it up.

These games have replaced 7 Wonders with gamers when we're sitting around saying "well, we've got 30 minutes and 6 players, what should we play?" I like 7 Wonders, but enjoy it most with 3-4.
