Car Wars: Vanishing Point scenario

Not too long ago I participating in a great Car Wars session. The GM/roadmaster designed the scenario around the 1971 film Vanishing Point:

From the IMDB:

Kowalski works for a car delivery service. He takes delivery of a 1970 Dodge Challenger to take from Colorado to San Francisco, California. Shortly after pickup, he takes a bet to get the car there in less than 15 hours. After a few run-ins with motorcycle cops and highway patrol they start a chase to bring him into custody. Along the way, Kowalski is guided by Supersoul - a blind DJ with a police radio scanner. Throw in lots of chase scenes, gay hitchhikers, a naked woman riding a motorbike, lots of Mopar and you've got a great cult hit from the early 70's.

We used a scrolling highway that had random twists and turns. It was awesome!

Vanishing Point is an awesome movie- I've often thought it would make for a great board game setting, actually...especially using some things from Thunder Road. I didn't consider Car Wars though.

Does the Kowalski player have to kill himself at the end? Did you write special rules for gay hitchhiking highway robbers?

I hope you were playing The J.B. Pickers' "Super Soul Theme" in the background.

The scenario rule was that if the police group chasing Kowalski killed him, Kowalski wins. They had to disable to vehicle (for example by shooting at the tires) instead of destroying it.

If Kowalski kills himself, it's a draw. So, the police group need to win in such a way that Kowalski couldn't ruin the win for them by suicide crashing the car.

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the film, but the backstory in our game was that the car was some very super high tech experiment, and Kowalski was supposed to deliver it from one branch of a company to another. He decides to go independent and the chase ensues. I played a Kowalski ally to even things out a bit.

No gay hitchhicking robber rules unfortunately.

Our game ended when a cop accidentally hit Kowalski's gas tank and exploded the car. The roll beat insane odds.

I should save copies of the scenario handouts my friend makes so that I can transcribe the flavour text. It's always good.
