Invasion from Outer Space Advanced Abilities Supplement @ $10

The IFOS - Advanced Abilities Supplement is a Web-exclusive for 'Invasion From Outer Space' and features 4 new game cards for the Martian and Hero Decks and 10 new Advanced Ability cards (8 Hero and 2 Martian) as well as the new rules for using them. All pieces are printed on the same high-quality card stock as the boardgame. The cards are exclusive to this supplement and will not be available anywhere else.

The new Advanced Abilities cards can be added to any existing Scenario as a way for both the Heroes and the Martians to gain experience during games unlocking powerful new abilities. There is a unique Advanced Ability for each Hero character, allowing them to "level-up" and use a super-powered version of their Talent (requiring the use of a full 3 Power Tokens), as well as global abilities that the Martians can get.

Last Night on Earth Advanced Abilities Supplement @ $16

The 'LNOE - Advanced Abilities Supplement' is a Web-exclusive for 'Last Night on Earth' and features eight new game cards for the Zombie and Hero Decks and 20 new Advanced Ability cards (16 Hero and 4 Zombie) as well as the new rules for using them. All pieces are printed on the same high-quality card stock as the boardgame. The cards are exclusive to this supplement and will not be available anywhere else.

The new Advanced Abilities cards can be added to any existing Scenario as a way for both the Heroes and the Zombies to gain experience during games unlocking powerful new abilities. There is a unique Advanced Ability for each Hero character, allowing them to "level-up", as well as global abilities that the Zombies can get.

Last Night on Earth: Red Zombies With Grave Weapons Miniature Set @ $12

Zombies With Grave Weapons in RED. 7 zombies, each unique, in this set.

NOTE: These are the same Zombies which were part of the supposedly exclusive pre-order for Zombies With Grave Weapons + Survival of the Fittest + Hero Pack 1.  This strikes me as a very bad move on the part of FFP - if the promo exclusives are made available in the future then why bother pre-ordering at all? As one of the people who pre-ordered ZWGW+SotF+HP1 I feel somewhat ripped off by this move.

Last Night on Earth Radioactive Zombies With Grave Weapons Miniature Set @ $15

Zombies With Grave Weapons miniatures in crystal green/radioactive color. 7 zombies, each unique, in this set. Also includes promo cards Pitchfork/Flashlight and Here They Come with purchase.

I haven't got IFOS yet, but the LNoE Advanced Abilities supplement sounds cool. I might pick this up in the next few weeks.

Did you pay for the Red Zombies when you preordered?

  • avatarDogmatix

In essence, yea, you did pay for the red zombies because there's little to no preorder discount through FlyFrog and their shipping rates were exorbitant [they've since mostly fixed the shipping issue]. I suspect making them available for sale was because they've got extra stock. When you're looking at a 3-item combined pre-order, the amount of money you would save going through a discount retailer--even if it's only a 10% discount, is kind of substantial, so it's a bit of a drag to see an "exclusive" item made widely available. One bit of me is glad they did it [as I continue to try to hunt down Runewars cards and a 2nd Nara the Fang figure for older FFG promos], but another bit says that Adrian's right. Why the hell would I preorder when I could buy the stuff a hell of a lot cheaper and then just pick these up with one of the true web-exclusive scenario packs?

Anyway, I just ordered these things a couple of days ago, so I'll report back on what the Advanced Abilities supplement is all about. I picked up the IFOS stuff simply because I was already putting in an order and I'm sure I'll pick up the game somewhere down the line.

I describe what the Advanced Abilities are all about and show a few scans here: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/591269/advanced-abilities-a-brief- impression

The short version... Cool, but way overpriced at $16.

USPS deliverd my copies of the supplements today, plus the radioactive zombies with grave weapons (I already had the plague zombies with grave weapons). In addition to the supplements, FFP sent five extra cards (2 for LNoE and 3 for IfOS).

I agree with Dogmatix re red Zombie pricing. My copies of the two Advanced Abilities supplements shipped on Wednesday. I asked them to ship separately because they're then below the customs threshold; and it's cheaper on postage so FFP saves a little too. Fingers crossed they remembered...

I didn't order the radioactives because of the send separately consideration, maybe later (when I'm less peeved at the 'exclusive' reds being available).

Woot! Talked my relatives into getting me these for Christmas. :D

The IFOS Advanced Abilities are things such as cancelling a Martian Card, the chance to wound all Martians in your space, attack all adjacent spaces, get a card, or heal. The Martians get to move one Martian 1D6 or attack buildings to discard Hero Cards.

The LNOE Advanced Abilities has rolling to heal, discarding to gain fight dice, alternatives to Searching to gain a card or item, or discard to make an extra Ranged Attack. The Zombies get a special Taken Over, an extra chance to discard and fight again, a chance to do an extra wound, and a special placement option.

There are two ways to implement the Advanced Abilities:-
    1) IFOS allows each Hero to start with their ability and the Martians to start with both abilities. LNOE uses the Dots System.
    2) There's a new Experience System, kill a Martian or Zombie and get an Experience Token. Spend three Tokens to gain an advanced ability. The Martians or Zombies need to kill a Hero to draw a random ability.

Better yet, both scenarios mention that the Experience System is a preview from an upcoming expansion. I would expect the likelihood is that this is one expansion that works for both games, rather than an expansion for each. Also remember that there's a LNOE expansion coming that contains boards for a new town; I'd expect this to be separate to the one that contains the Experience System.
