Banners of War is an expansion for Fantasy Flight's Runewars, wiith over 50 new figures and hundreds of new cards and tokens including two new unique unit types for each faction, eight new characters, and 32 all-new Tactics cards. Banners of War also introduces a number of optional variants, such as the “Commanders of the Battlefield” variant allows a player to promote one of his heroes to the role of Commander. These variants can be added to Runewars in any combination.

    Looks good. More Runewars is good. I'll be interested to see what the Commander rules do. I also like these "option" expansions in general.

    I'll bet some people are disappointed it didn't add another race, though. I don't know how a board and everything for a 5th or 6th player would even fit on my table, but that's just me.

    This sounds exactly like what was needed to add that little extra depth to the game that was missing from the base game.
    Better integration of the heroes, more choices for developments, etc.

    Not sure about the need for new units though, especially since any eventual 5th or 6th race would also need 6 units right out the gate to be competitive with the established 4 races.

    No announcement on FFG's page about this...

    Well I hope it's true because I was planning on picking it up on Friday and if it's not there I'll be a little miffed. I've read over the rules a couple of times now and I think I might want to add every option just about. I definitely want to try not playing epic but using this road to victory variant which sounds super aggresive and fun, I'd also use the new cities which means you can play regular with 7 as a victory condition. The fate tactic cards are awesome, I defnitely want to add heroe commanders in there. The tech type development idea sounds like fun. It's just all stuff I want to try immediately. The new title and 0 action card for defense. This looks like a great package.

    @JonJacob

    I'd call ahead and check. The game has shipped from FFG to their distributers and some stores have them in stock, but it tends to take longer to get to Canada.

    And it's true... Picked up a copy today. As expected, the development cards and the new season cards are the real selling point, in addition to the new units, of course. Doesn't hurt to have new terrain pieces, either.

    Checked ahead, it was in so I picked mine up too, looks great. Season cards are cool as I think I might remove some dragon rune events from the deck and add them onto the board with a cities instead, I like Road to Victory as well and between the two of them I think this game can become much more aggressive. Road to Victory not only adds violence into the last turn but it could potentially make the ending more climactic in general.

    Throw in the lost city and suddenly there is a lot of reasons to attack, attack, attack. I really like how variable the game is becoming. There is a lot of room to design the game how you want it to play now.. or just let it happen randomly. Development cards are a cool addition too and I like how they don't take any extra action to complete.
