Logan's Run - Tow Jockey Five Second Review

I love this movie. No excuses. No apologies. It is one of my favorite movies of all time. If ever there was a movie that proves that story trumps special effects it is this. The themes of self reliance, of the triumph of virtue over self indulgence, of the value of freedom give me goose bumps just to think about. It stands up to repeated viewings and is one of the few movies that outshines its source material. The book by William F Nolan is so horrible I get a little vomit in the back of my mouth just thinking about it but David Zelag Goodman, the screenwriter, and Michael Anderson, the director, turn that attrocious piece of excrement into a glittering jewel. They don't slack on the action scenes either which are tense and energetic.  Jenny Agutter, Michael York, and Richard Jordan are all great. Peter Ustiov is a  legend for good reason. See if you don't take in a long deep breath of fresh air along with Logan and Jessica as they break free of the city and witness their first sunrise together.

Netflix status: DVD & Blu Ray only. But you can buy the DVD for $5 you cheap bastard and you should own it because it's great.

First time I went to visit my father-in-law in Texas we went to the water gardens in Dallas, I looked around for a minute and said, hey, this is totally from Logan's Run, I'm way more excited to be here now! Then everyone laughed at me...

Dude, I love these quick, fly-by movie reviews. I hope you keep them up for a long time.

Really? I HATED this movie when I was a kid. Perhaps I'll give it another chance.

Also, did you ever see the TV series? That one really needed to lay some smoke.

The weakest part of the movie, if there is a weak part, is the special effects which are weak in comparison to what we have become used to in the age of post Star Wars mind blowing computer aided and created images.

However, the set design, the visual look and feel of the movie, are all great.

I think you really should give it another shot Al. A kid may enjoy the action/jail break parts (or may not in your case) but the rest would probably fly over a kid's head. Especially one who still thought somebody who was 30 was ancient and that they themselves would never be THAT old.

That TV show is best forgotten and never mentioned. Makes Buck Rogers look like a masterpiece.

i loved this as a kid, and not just for the bit where he crashes into a room full of red light district lit titties. Jennie Agutter featured prominently in various illegal thoughts as a growing lad. great movie, didn't they also turn it into a tv series? i remember a lot of dreams as a kid where i would be a wild rebel out in the wilderness being hunted down by fierce looking and super hot woman on horseback wanting to round us up as dogs and take us back to the civilized areas and perform naughty deeds on them. wonderful. in my teenages years i developed a tremendous super power (no joke, for realz) of being able to think about it, replace the women bounty hunters with my favorite girls at school and fall into a super duper sleep where they'd make me be oh so naughty just to be allowed to live! haha, awesome, thanks for the reminder.

One of my favorite movies of the past as well, along with Rollerball and Planet of the Apes.
