Added bonus: the box turns into an oversized shuriken. Seize the Crown of Command, and behead the opposition!

  • avatarmjl1783

Yeah, yeah, more Talisman. That's great, but what's in that damn mystery box? If it isn't Borderlands, I'll probably cry a lot and get drunker than usual for the next few weeks.

  • avatarwaddball

I'm hoping it's Milch und Gherkins, to finally heal the rift between euro and AT and restore balance to the world.

  • avatarthejinx13

So if I roll too high on the movement dice, will I go all the way to the top of the mountain, without stopping, and go all the way back down again in a single turn?

  • avatarvolnon

I just hope the figures look more in scale to the base game than the last expansion did.

Still, more Talisman to a gamer is like more rum to a pirate...

    Arrrrrrrrrrrr, me hearties!

  • Mr Skeletor

    Talisman figures are to scale????

How many expansions did 2nd ed have?

  • avatarubarose

    2nd Edition had

    Talisman the Expansion
    Talisman the Adventure
    Dungeon
    Timescape
    City
    Talisman Dragons

Possibly another one, but I think that's it.

  • avatarNot Sure

That's all of them, Uba. My 2nd Ed. set only has the first three.

I'm not a huge Talisman fan, but we've been playing the FFG version a lot recently. I'm looking forward to seeing Highlands, which is an autobuy for the Talisman junkie in our group.

  • avatarubarose

    Thanks.

We'll no doubt be getting Highlands eventually, but we still haven't even played Frostmarch, which I've had for 4 months.

  • avatarDogmatix

There were a handful of smaller 2nd ed expansions published in White Dwarf too I do believe. Anway...what I need now is a fucking empty coffin box to PUT all this Talisman stuf in.

Wonder if it's time to repurpose that Runewars box...

  • avatarSuperflyTNT

I gave up on Talisman after the "Frog Incident Of 2009" and now I play Prophecy. Much better game, in my opinion, and with the new expansion coming out rather quickly, I'm having trouble getting excited about having to clear off the "big table" to play Talisman with it's monstrous board just to get turned into a frog for 6 consecutive turns....;)

  • avatarStephen Avery

Definately getting this. I would buy talisman just so I could cuddle with it on lonely nights.

I need to upgrade to Z-mans prophecy as well (I have the original.) If anyone wants the old prophecy I'll sell it for $15. The box is bit beat up but the components are in good condition.

  • avatarevilgit

Yay! Does this mean the other expansions are back in stock as well? I've got the base and Reaper. Was going to resist buying anything more for it, but my last few games were so enjoyable that I'm all in.

  • robartin

    Fuck yeah!

  • avatarSuperflyTNT

Dude, Prophecy hold the title of "middle ground between Talisman and Runebound" in my book. It's a great game, and I'm actually going to review it this week on The Circus, to be reprinted here at some point.

I'm pretty sure you're right about this one. Wasn't that were the Dr. Strange guy that could travel separately from his body came from?

  • avatarAarontu

I have all the expansions made before this one, and it all fits in the original box. It's getting tight, but it all fits and I think I can probably fit this one in there, too.

Rules are up on FFG's page for this one. Too bad it looks extremely similar to the dungeon, only the Eagle King is weaker and you can't go straight to the crown by beating him.

  • avatarevilgit

I think I like that better than the Dungeon. I've never played with either, but seems to me, if you can beat a Str/Craft 12 dude by 8 points in order to get to the Crown of Command, you've been dicking around on the board far far too long.

That's what everyone thinks when they first see it, but the followers and weapons in the Dungeon and Reaper expansions can possibly make you really powerful in combat before you have enough base strength/craft to get through the mines or crypt.

  • avatarMichael Barnes

Ooh...I want this really bad...still haven't played with the FROSTMARCH expansion, but hell, I know what it's going to do and what it does is something I love.

I'm still hoping for the return of TIMESCAPE...

  • avatarevilgit

Nothing is better than watching a Space Marine get turned into a toad.
    ;D

  • avatarNot Sure

Last game I played, I drew the spell that let me double my craft for one round. Guess where I used that, with my craft of 10ish.

    One Crown of Command, please.

I didn't even need a Talisman, but I got one once people discovered my plan and quested me, hoping for the "discard one spell" Talisman quest. Suckers. From "also-ran" to "winner" in one roll. The "Crown and Sceptre" ending from Frostmarch is really really obnoxious.

  • avatarSuperflyTNT

I think one of the only redeeming qualities of this game is the fact that there's tremendous expandibility to make the game last even longer! I love to roll 12 consecutive times to try to get where I'm going, to no avail!

The Dungeon is the only one I really have liked so far, and I agree with NotSure that the Frostmarch end-game is a fucking pariah. Obnoxious, at best. I do, however, dig the "Witch and the Wardrobe" feel to the Frostmarch expansion, it definately changes the game's feel quite a bit.

Hoping this expansion is closer to Dungeon than Reaper!

In my experience, the expansions actually speed up the game. Also, rules are out and this expansion looks basically like a re-themed Dungeon.

  • avatarSuperflyTNT

I play with "Heroes of Might and Magic" folks that are more interested in buffing their character to the absolute maximum rather than going for the win, so these kinds of games tend to drag on for hours. Sort of "It's the Journey, not the Destination" philosophy, I suppose. That's why these games drag on at my place, and the more to "explore", the longer it takes.

This is nice, that it's akin to the Dungeon. I'll have to check it out, and thanks for the reference!
