    Auto-buy.
I once had the first print in my collection but it was so buggy and needed me to print out the new revises haunts...and that was a bit too much. I hate it when you buy an unfinnished game after having to pay 60 dollar. But it looks like BAHOTH finally will shine in all its glory.
I love the box-art. Its a bit cliché to say the least but I like the fact it looks like a Hammer-horror poster. After all, the game was always on the edge of being campy.
Glas the pre-painted minis are still included. That was the components i was expecting to be lost in the second printrun. I do hope these are new sculpts. dind't care too much for the old ones.

  • avatarOctavian

Ditto. I cashed out the first edition when it was out of print - had a lot of fun with it but the production flaws started outweighing the fun after a dozen plays or so. Every now and then I've regret letting it go. Looking forward to adding it back to the shelf.

  • avatarShapeshifter

I think this game will score high on the "I had it once in my collection, sold it on ebay when it was out of print and made alot of cash and now I'm going to buy it again in this souped up edition"-meter.
In any case, this is the smartest move hasbro made in years.
Now that they are on a roll again with this great re-release...is it too much to ask to demand a streamlined revamp of Gunslinger?

  • avatarSka_baron

Wonder if I'll get this one. I've still got and enjoy the original, but when we pull it out I do get kinda nervous hoping it wont be a huge flop as it's been in the past. If this edition truly does solve all its past issues, I may have to get it and - I dont know - math trade the old one?

What do folks do with older editions of games?

  • avatarShellhead

That is some excellent box art, especially compared to the awful art on the original. Because of the new stuff and the ample opportunity for them to have fixed the problems from the original, I will definitely buy this new edition. But I'm not letting go of my original until I'm sure about the new edition.

  • avatarKen B.

    Auto-buy, as I've said before.

Shellhead has a good point...I know some folks who dumped their Epic Duels because a new edition was coming out from Hasbro...but that reprint/remake never materialized.

  • avatarubarose

It's now available for pre-order and a few places.

  • avatarJason Lutes

Yeah, this is a no-brainer. The original got tons of play and was always entertaining, despite its flaws. Counters with actual pictures on them? Luxurious.

  • avatarNeonPeon

Graves in the front yard - that's my kinda house.

I'll definitely give this one a try. I grew bored with the original but I haven't played it in about 5 years, and I'm sure this new edition will be much better.

BTW Uba, you put 2009 as the expected ship date. :o

  • avatarwaddball

My friends and I loved this when it came out, but it was a very hit-or-miss experience. If they've actually tuned the game, instead of just patching the obvious errata/loophole crap, then I'm in. I still have the old one, though; missed the boat on ebay....

  • avatarMattLoter

Glad I cashed out selling my old one just as this was announced. Some of that money was set aside to preorder this so we're obviously getting it.

  • avatarubarose

Thanks NeonPeon. I fixed the date.

I decided not to try and cash in and sell my original copy. It's got sentimental value. Plus, the number of times we have played since the new version was announced, and the number of times we will play before the 2nd edition is released makes up for any profit that could have been made off the game. I hope they offer the corrected/improved haunts by download to those of us with the 1st edition. Although, this 2nd edition is so reasonably priced, it might be worth it to just get another copy. Maybe use the extra parts to do some custom characters, omens and items, like the Scooby Doo stuff.

  • avatarSka_baron

oooh, a 1st ed. upgrade options would be awesome!

  • avatarUniversalHead

It's funny, I spent AGES reformatting the revamped Haunt books into a layout matching the original - and I still have never got around to playing the damn game once! :)

  • avatarShellhead

I did download some alternative token artwork and making new tokens. And I downloaded and printed off the updated scenario booklets two years ago. Hole-punched the pages and put them in ring binders so people could just take out the two relevant pages for the current scenario.

  • avatarsisteray

Great! I played the original version twice and both times were so fouled up by errors in the book that we never got to finish either. It was a good idea that was soured for me. I'll gladly give this version a go.

  • avatarJonJacob

I just looked at the "review" over at BGG. It looks practically identical to the original one. I've already printed out the revised rules etc... I'm calling this an auto-no-buy. My original is looking just fine.

  • avatarJason Lutes

Happy with those "bats" counters, JonJ? Just kidding. My copy of the original is in storage across the country, and I know my students will love Betrayal, so I ordered the new edition. Should be here by Wednesday.

  • avatarRliyen

Auto-buy here as well, even though I d/led the revised books for the game.

  • Mr Skeletor

So the game is still as average as ever?

  • avatarGary Sax

Haha, Skeletor, on point as always.

  • avatarcraniac

Wait--did they fix the rules or not?

  • avatarSuperflyTNT

Has anyone gotten this yet? I'm really curious to see if the warping issue is as bad as it's made out to be on TOS.

  • avatarMr MOTO

yeah... It's as bad... My tiles look like potato chips. Everything else is just fine and the box art is sooooooo much better. A friend of mine who bought another copy had the same issue. It isn't the thickness of the tile as much of some crappy ass printing/drying issue. You can't stack the tiles without them just tipping over on their own and making a big mess unless you really work them and then you risk creasing the artwork. I have to call WotC customer service for a replacement as my earlier attempt at stacking the tiles and placing them under a telephone book and a 50lb weight for a week didn't work.

  • avatarMr MOTO

Craniac, I'm not sure I understand your question but the new incarnation of the game plays just fine now.

  • avatarColumbob

My brother's tiles have warped, but not that much and stacking them isn't an issue, neither is playing with them. It's a bit of a bummer, but not worth tying your panties in a knot.

  • avatarSuperflyTNT

I wonder why they didn't just use Zombies!!! style cardstock to save money rather than a hydroscopic laminated pressboard material. Oh well, such is life.

  • avatarShellhead

If I bought the new edition, could I mix and match parts from the old and new to get one improved game? Like maybe cards and map tiles from the old set combined with tokens and scenario books from the new set. (I don't give a shit about the Underground Lake tile, the entrance is clearly two levels above the lake in the tile art.)

  • avatarColumbob

Oh yeah you could do that, but aside from the cleaned up scenario book and lake tile, and box art, the rest is pretty much the same.

  • avatarShellhead

I do appreciate the new box art. The original was ugly.

  • avatarBienardo

My tiles/parts DIDN'T warp or distort at all. The only complaint I have is with the stat counters being way too loose. It's almost like they used the only sliders, but didn't account that the new cardboard was half as thick.

I wonder what the actual percentage of games sold with of warped tiles is? From the geek and F:AT you'd think close to 100%.

Still just as amazing a game as ever though.

  • avatarscissors

Mine didn't warp until the second day. The potato chip comparison is dead on.

"From the geek and F:AT you'd think close to 100%."

Well you're one of the two or three people who has written they *haven't* had any problem, so you must be one of the lucky ones.

Is it impossible to play with the warped tiles? No, it isn't, at least not mine. But that isn't the point - there's no reason consumers should accept being crapped on for their money. Most normal people consider 50 bucks a fair amount of money for a game. Flimsy is one thing... this is a production mistake and the company has to accept that: the photo comparing the earlier tiles, as shown on BGG, says everything.

  • avatarMr MOTO

I just contacted customer service and they are well aware of the issue and are sending replacements. It sounds as if they are breaking the seals on tiles first so that they can make sure that the replacements wont have the same issue as the ones I have. So all in all if these aren't horribly warped, I still think that the new edition is a great game.
