Descent: Journeys in the Dark Second Edition is a narrative board game in which one player takes on the role of the treacherous overlord, and up to four other players take on the roles of courageous heroes. This updated version of the classic dungeondelving board game features a host of enhancements, including new heroes and monsters, streamlined rules, a class-based hero system, campaign play, and much more!

Just sold my first edition after about half a dozen plays. Just didn't live up to my own expectations and so I'm excited to see if this version reignites the dungeon crawling urge.

I kept my old Descent shit, but I'm very interested in this new edition.

I've got it and all the expansions including RTL but don't really know much about the changes in this update.

I want this and I want it bad. Never tried the original because it seemed overly long (though I quite like Doom), but Road to Legend made me want to buy it all. I hope the second ed can do campaign play in a shorter timeframe.

Campaign play is the biggest feature right out the door in this edition. Apparently a campaign is played in around 20 hours - 9 quests, so a lot faster than RtL.

    Is this the ONE?

Is the campaign a series of one and done scenarios or is there some sort of random generator?

The campaign is made of an intro, 5 act I quests, 10 act II quests, 2 interludes and 2 finales.

Of 5 act I quests, you only play 3. Whether you win or not will affect which 5 of the 10 act II quests are playable (the 2 unplayed act I quests are treated as overlord wins for the purpose of deciding which act II quests are playable). You only play 3 act II quests out of the available 5. The interludes and finales are chosen depending who wins most quest (act I quests for interlude and act II quests for finales). The winner of the finale wins the campaign.
