In 1974, the world changed forever when Gary Gygax introduced the Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game. The legacy of his innovative ideas and the extensive reach of his powerful influence can be seen in virtually every facet of gaming today. To help honor his work and his memory, Wizards of the Coast has created limited-edition reprints of the original 1st Edition core rulebooks: the Dungeon Master's Guide, Monster Manual, and Player's Handbook. These premium versions of the original Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (AD&D) rulebooks have been lovingly reprinted with the original art and content, but feature an attractive new cover design commemorating this re-release. Available in limited quantities as a hobby channel exclusive in North America, your purchase of this monumental book helps support the Gygax Memorial Fund - established to immortalize the "Father of Roleplaying Games" with a memorial statue in Lake Geneva, WI.

I can't decide whether I'm going to pick these up. Part of me thinks that if I do and decide I don't need them anymore, they'll appreciate in value. Inevitably I am always wrong about things like that though. I still have my 1st Edition books, so I definitely don't need them.

Got mine! We played D&D 1st edition last week, and I was short a few players handbooks...This will actually come in handy.

Yeah, I really want them but when I was about to order them I sat back and thought about how it's 100% just a fancy thing I'd like to have. I don't need them, I suppose I'd use them rather than older books if I had them, but it's not like I don't have the originals.

But then they look awesome and the full set is like $80 on Amazon. Wish I was rich and didn't have to give a shit about $80 ever.

I might be able to grab some at NYCC too so there's that as well.

I wonder how "limited" they really are and if they will ever be hard to get.

Might as well pick them up just because I HATE people telling me I can only buy things if I live in North America...

Yeah got mine last week. Still reading through my copy of DCC so I haven't cracked them open yet and might not just for the reason Dair mentioned above. Haven't seen any concept art for the memorial yet but I hope it is nice. I pitched in a little money last year at Gen Con.

Those are nice covers. The original covers were kind of tacky-looking, especially that cluttered Monster Manual cover, but these new covers pick out one neat detail from each cover and make that the centerpiece of a more restrained design.

I'm almost tempted to buy a set, out of nostalgia. I still have my original Player's Handbook, but my DMG and Monster Manual were borrowed and never returned many years ago.
